Carlos Trotty 3-28-14 Field Experience II I chose to do my showcase lesson on Geometry, entitled Three-Dimensional Figures.

My lesson includes a pre, during, and post assessment. These assessments will be used to students understanding and students learning of the lesson objective. The lesson objective is that: Students will recognize volume as an attribute of solid figures and understand concepts of volume measurement. The purpose of my pre-assessment is to get students involved hands on by making these three-dimensional figures. This way they will have a physical and visual representation and can actually see the different sides, shapes and angles of the figures. The students have been working on two-dimensional figures and now are being introduced to three. The purpose of the during assessment is to make sure students are cutting the shapes out right and that they are forming three-dimensional figures. The purpose of the post assessment is for students to share different ways that they made three-dimensional figures and discuss what they feel the differences are between a cube and a rectangular prism. Before the pre-assessment, I would make sure students have the correct materials and are able to draw and cut out correctly. The pre-assessment and during will be graded on the basis on whether the student formed a three-dimensional shape. If they did form the shape, they will get 1pt and if they did not they will receive 0pt.

For the post assessment, I will assess students knowledge by grading their math notebook where they wrote their answer to the discussion question. For accommodations, I will repeat and modify instructions as needed. Assist students with cutting, folding, and taping of the three-dimensional figures. I will also provide different examples of three-dimensional figures and model how to make them. I will record all data gathered from these assessments in the gradebook.

Assessments

Pre- Assessment During Assessment Post Assessment

Format of Formative Assessments Pre-Assessment: I will have students make 3dimensional figures out of nets drawn on graph paper. During- I will observe students and make sure they are copying the nets correctly so that they can make the threedimensional figures. Post-have students discuss the difference between a cube and a rectangular prism and write it in their math notebooks.

Accommodations Repeat and modify instructions as needed. Assist students with cutting, folding, and taping of the three-dimensional figures. Provide different examples of three-dimensional figures and model how to make them.
