Individual Barriers Analyses Model One: Luke & Fourth Grade US History This model reveals hidden barriers

for a student named Luke in Fourth Grade US History unit. Student: Luke Luke, a young man with Asperger Syndrome and ADHD, is an enthusiastic student, well on his way to becoming an expert in Helicopters. At home acquired and collected hundreds of photos, Web sites and videos dedicated to Helicopters. Luke speaks quickly and sometimes loudly, but intelligibly. Luke does have some difficulty with writing and draw using pen and paper. He is much more comfortable and successful using his computer. Luke is keeping up in the mainstream classroom with his reading and lessons, but is struggling with written assignments and work. This is in part because of increasing amounts of required writing in fourth grade. Social studies particularly connect with Luke and he uses his strong strategic skills, such as his ability to research, locate, and collect information to good effect in these classes. However, because of Lukes motor difficulties, he must invest tremendous time and effort to stay on task and on schedule.
