Lesson Title: Grade Level: Subject: CC/GPSs:

Cells to Systems to Organisms 7th Science

Description of Learning Goals, Standards, Objectives

S7L2 Students will describe the structure and function of cells,
tissues, organs, and organ systems. a. Explain that cells are organized into tissues, tissues into organs, organs into systems, and systems into organisms. b. Explain the purpose of the major organ systems in the human body (i.e., digestion, respiration, reproduction, circulation, excretion, movement, control, and coordination, and for protection from disease).
National Technology Standards: 3. Research and Information Fluency Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media Long-Term Learning Goal or Outcome: Students will be able to understand the levels of organization for living organisms. Students also will be able to understand the intricate design of how systems work together. Students should be able to grasp higher thinking questions, after completing this assignment.

ABCD Objectives or Outcomes:

Using the website http://dakotathames.wix.com/treasurehunt students will answer questions that are all about the structures of organisms. The students will be graded on the accuracy of their answers compared to the teachers prewritten answers, with the standard being 75%.

Description of Activities with Technology and Materials

Activity Design: Plan to create curricula that includes diverse and multiple perspectives. I created a website to guide the students through the assignment. I provided resources to answer the questions and questions to stimulate higher thinking. How will you get the students attention and motivate them? Students will see the assignment as a game and will be eager to complete the assignment. Teacher and student activities: What will you do/say or have the students do/say in order to connect this lesson with the previous one or build on prior knowledge? The teacher will take the previous knowledge of levels of Class starter and lesson connection:

biological organization and relate it to the various organ systems in the body and using the assignment the knowledge will be reinforced at home.

Technology Connection:

Describe the activities in which you and the students will engage. Be a "fly on the wall" and describe in detail what is going on in your classroom. The teacher will allow discussion of the assignment before the students turn in the assignment. Describe the strategies you will use. There will be direct instruction on the requirements of the assignment. The students will be given time to work on the assignment at home. Do you need to provide direct instruction? If so, describe it. Yes, the teacher will give the students the assignment which contains all the requirements, Will you facilitate the lesson? If so, describe your approach. Yes after the assignment, the teacher will link all the organ systems together by explaining how organ systems become organisms. There will also be a guided discussion on what was learned from the assignment

Materials and Resources:

Will students work independently, with a partner or in groups? Describe. The students will work alone at home and in groups during the discussions

What strategies, materials, etc. are you using to teach children with exceptionalities? Depending on their exception I will have a specific strategy to help the student with the assignment. Which technology will support the lesson? List the technology, software, URLs, etc. that you and/or the students will use. Describe the technology integration strategies you will use. I am using a website to reinforce the lesson List any handouts, books, equipment, media, etc. that you will use to support your lesson.

Reflection on Lesson Design

Future Actions : Answer the following questions: Explain how you incorporated information from the chapter and D2L modules into this lesson plan. I used a Web 2.0 tool to facilitate the lesson from home. After considering this lesson plan, what will you do differently when you design the next lesson in light of your new understandings? I think I would go more in depth about the subject. Or, if you had more time/resources, etc., how would you change the lesson and/or technology artifact? I would create my own sources for the treasure hunt. How does your technology artifact showcase design principles? The website uses the law of similarity and the law of symmetry. How does your technology artifact require student use of higher order thinking skills? The students must gather information and critical analyze it for accuracy. The student then takes the information and answers critical thinking questions. How does the technology in your lesson align to the content you are trying to teach in your lesson? The technology allows the students to view the information in a different light from the usual direct route of teaching.
