My Professional Development Plan

Purpose: To develop personal goals and values for myself as a future teacher to keep myself aligned with the College of Educations Core Values. COE Core Values: 1. 2. 3. 4. The Appreciation of Diversity and Similarity The Excitement of Teaching, Learning and Mentoring The Challenge of Integrated Practice and Collaboration The Strength or Integrity and Responsibility

My future goals based on these core values (What is in parenthesis are how I can apply the proficiencies to my growth in achieving them) 1. Appreciation of Diversity and Similarity My past experiences with being surrounded by diversity have been limited because of a lack of it in my home environment. I will strive to adjust and learn from others differences. Teaching to all types of learners is a big goal of mine. Being flexible and effective to a class full of learners is something I strive for. I can accomplish this by continuing my best buddies membership and my tutoring job. This gives me insight on how others behave and learn and how to approach certain subjects. Tutoring gives me insight on the best way to approach a problem while working on other ways to get a message across so it clicks with the learner. Best buddies gives an opportunity to all and appreciates the differences in everyone. Proficiencies this applies to: o Defined set of values with developed behaviors, values, and skills that allow them to work well with all members of the community. (Being surrounded by all types of learners) o Integrate perspectives about culture and individual interests into the classrooms while using strategies that value this. Also to create a classroom that embraces these differences and communicating them respectively and effectively.(Recognizing differences and getting to know the students, especially in the diverse school where I am a tutor) o Have the ability to self-reflect, support, and advocate for equal opportunity for all.( Possibly being a part of an administrative side of education dealing with curriculum or rules) 2. Excitement of Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring I feel I contain passion for the profession of teaching and I hope to grow this through my education at Butler. Also part of my desire to be a teacher was to serve as a mentor for them in addition to teaching them things. I hope to enrich my knowledge of the subjects I will be teaching in my content area as well as develop other skills like communication.

This is possible through dedication to what I teach and how I want to teach it. Also learning how to improve my intrapersonal relationships through shadowing or jobs can improve the way my character as a teacher comes across to others. Proficiencies o Depth of knowledge in the content area and other areas of the curriculum. (Taking more content area classes in the future and take furthering education classes throughout my career) Adjusting to diverse learners and plan, teach, and assess the content.(Create flexible lesson plans to adjust to separate needs) Make instruction to where positive social interaction can exist.(Have a classroom environment of respect) Developing relationships within the learning community.(Communicate fully to everyone involved) Effectively communicate with others in the learning community. Advocate for the school, students, and the education profession.(Be proud of what I do and what my students can achieve)

3. The Challenge of Integrated Practice and Collaboration Working together is a skill of large importance in any environment. I will strive for my students to collaborate and find connections in what they are learning. Being a good team member as well as giving a significance to what I do as an educator can promote this value. Being socially aware and practicing collaboration skills can improve my proficiencies in this. I can do this by improving my leadership and team skills. This goal takes more time and requires some additional support from facility. Proficiencies o Combine all types of knowledge to provide understandable instruction based on the students need. (Provide various ways of presenting the information) o A variety of techniques are used for instruction and personal reflection.(Reflect and discuss what worked well and what didnt for the future) o Asking questions that support quality answers and self-created questions with enough time to answer them.(Encourage questions in the classroom and try to have students answer the question themselves) o Have awareness of others values and how this may affect what they know and how they teach. o Responding to students and colleagues is proactive and sensitive to their needs.(Applying material and responses in a professional manner)

4. Strength of Integrity and Responsibility Keeping to strict standards can be difficult and monotonous but every child needs to be aware of the base foundations of their knowledge.

Teaching in exciting ways can greatly enforce this value. Having a very communicative environment would as well, being open to constructive criticism of yourself while pushing to improve. Something like a class survey could be taken about the methods and information shared in class and their effectiveness. Proficiencies o Model enthusiasm in teaching and learning while making standards clear and evident to students.( Have an evident excitement for teaching while also supplying the schools necessary knowledge maybe in a more fun way) o Seek feedback and suggestions from anyone in the environment as well as self-assess and be able to adjust based on this.(Have my students assess me and ask for their opinions) o Maintain good rapport and always work to the highest potential.(Keeping positive relationships and having drive would accomplish this)

5. Extra Proficiencies- concerning technology With the large presence of technology already present in teenagers lives, incorporating this into the classroom can help the students express themselves in the manner that is best for them. Proficiencies o Remain current with emerging technology and use it consistently to enhance instruction. o Use it to improve efficiency and support further development.
