Texas Educator Standards

Standard I .* The teacher designs instruction appropriate for all students that reflects an
understanding of relevant content and is based on continuous and appropriate assessment. This
standard includes:
Planning instruction that considers developmental characteristics, varied learner needs,
background, skills, interests and cultural and socioeconomic differences;
Matching the appropriate Instructional Goals and Objectives with the correct content and
pedagogy.
Managing resources as they plan for coherent instruction, and assessment of student
learning.
Standard I I .* The teacher creates a classroom environment of respect and rapport that fosters a
positive climate for learning, equity, and excellence. This standard includes:
Creating an environment with respect for diversity and individual differences is fostered
along with active engagement among students
Communicating expectations for students
Managing classroom procedures
Managing student behavior
Creating an environment that is physically and emotionally safe and productive
Standard I I I .* The teacher promotes student learning by providing responsive instruction that
makes use of effective communication techniques, instructional strategies that actively engage
students in the learning process, and timely, high-quality feedback. This standard includes:
Using spoken language that is appropriate to students ages, backgrounds, and interests
Effectively crafting questions and leading student discussions
Engaging students in the learning
Providing for timely, constructive, and substantive feedback that demonstrated flexibility
and responsiveness to the students learning.
Standard I V. The teacher fulfills professional roles and responsibilities and adheres to legal and
ethical requirements of the profession. This standard includes:
Communicating and interacting with families
Participating in problem-solving and engaging in collaborative decision making with
other educators to support students learning and well-being
Assuming professional responsibilities and duties outside the classroom as appropriate
Engaging in a variety of professional development opportunities to enhance content and
pedagogical knowledge
Identify personal and professional strengths and challenges and set goals to achieve
improved teaching performance.
Adhering to legal and ethical requirements for educators as it relates to student records,
administering state exams, and working within the local and state educational system.
