Work Experience
Independent Nanny June 2012-present
During the summer, I cared for a 13-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy that live next door to me.
In the mornings, I would make sure they were up and ready for camp, then drive them to and from camp.
If they did not have camp, I planned activities for them throughout the day and maintained discipline.
Activities included trips to the mall, pool, or park as well as games at home and outside play.
This summer, I will be caring for three girls (Ages 10, 8, and 6) every day, and I will have to plan daily activities for
them.
Camp Counselor at the Drama Learning Center August 2008-July 2011
The campers, both boys and girls, ranged from grades 1 through 6.
The camp took place at an indoor theatre in Columbia, MD.
I assisted the camp directors in leading activities and teaching choreography and music.
I led games often and directed small groups in rehearsals for their final show.
I assisted with transitions to lunch and outside time.
I maintained discipline and organization, especially backstage during performances.
Babysitting January 2006-Present
I have been babysitting for about five families in my neighborhood consistently for around 6 years.
The kids range from age 5 to 13 of both genders.
I provide activities, like board games, outside play, or helping with homework, as well as maintain discipline.
I sometimes guide them in bedtime, mealtime, and morning routines.
Being the oldest kid in the neighborhood for twelve years, I have really gotten to know all of the kids I babysit for
and they look up to me as a role model.
Volunteer Experience
University of Maryland Alternative Spring Break program March 2013
I traveled to the Dominican Republic with a group of UMD students for a weeklong Spring Break.
I served in a local community schoolhouse set up by a non-profit organization there.
The students were all Spanish speakers who lived in a poverish neighborhood in Cabarete, DR.
I assisted in Montessori pre-school classrooms as well as with Elementary aged at-risk youth.
With the at-risk youth, we helped them organize a performance of The Little Red Riding Hood.
I also assisted in an elementary (Ages 6-13) English class and helped lead games and activities for bettering English
skills.

Being there every day for a week, I really got to connect with the kids, learn about their Dominican culture, and tell
them about our U.S. culture.
University of Maryland Beyond These Walls: Junior Terps program September 2012-Present
I volunteer at a reading enhancement after-school program on Fridays at Langley Park Elementary.
I read and do crafts with students in grades 1-5, mostly 2
nd
grade.
Another purpose of the program is to expose students to the idea of going to college. The program is a nice outlet for
them to ask questions about college and spend time with leaders other than their teachers.
UMD ESOL Conversation Program September 2012-Present
I meet with a UMD international ESOL student once a week to help them work on their English conversational skills.
She asks me questions about U.S. culture and we talk about various topics ranging from what our plans are for the
week to current events.
Although this program does not work with children, it has gotten me very interested in the Elementary ESOL
program and I hope to learn more about it in the future.
Teachers Education Association of Maryland Students January 2012-Present
I serve as the technology/social media chair of the club, which means I use Facebook and email to let other education
majors know about our events.
We hold events for Education Majors at UMD, such as first-year teacher and student teacher panels, application
workshops, and Praxis workshops.
Every semester, we are pen pals with one elementary school class. So, we write letters back and forth with them every
other week for the entire semester. Then, at the end of the semester we visit them at school or they come to UMD for a
field trip to meet us.
In April, we host a class of 4
th
or 5
th
graders from Hollywood Elementary School for a day at UMD. They go on a tour
and then have lunch and a college question and answer session with UMD College of Education students.
We also run a table at Maryland Day in the Benjamin Building. We provide a kid-friendly craft, like decorating
picture frames or animal masks, and assist visiting kids with making the craft.
Teaching Assistant in 5
th
Grade January 2012
I helped out in a fifth grade gifted and talented classroom at Running Brook Elementary in Columbia, MD during my
winter break.
I assisted the students with a research project and also led math games in small groups.
EDCI280 Experience
Greenbelt Middle School January 2013-May 2013
My placement is in a diverse 7
th
grade Science classroom with Mrs. Pagunsan, who has been teaching for about fifteen
years.
I assisted the teacher with passing out papers, grading assignments, maintaining discipline and smooth transitions,
and brainstorming ideas for classroom management and future lessons.

During class, I assisted small groups and individuals with labs or worksheets, answering any questions they had
about the lesson or activity.
