Flow diagrams, Decision making flow diagrams and Cycle diagrams

Flow diagrams are a useful tool to help learners sequence ideas, procedures or
events. They can assist students to simplify complex processes or ideas. Flow
diagrams can be used for initial planning or they can represent a timeline or action
plan if appropriately annotated. Flow diagrams can be completed as a series of dot
points, simple explanatory paragraphs or annotated pictures. For example, students
could complete a flow diagram showing water purification ready for drinking water or
how plastics are made and recycled.

Decision making flow diagrams are a useful tool to assist learners with decision
making, particularly if the issue/question is complex.

Cycle diagrams help learners to recognise that the flow is continuous. For example,
students could complete cycle diagrams of natural processes such as the carbon and
nitrogen cycle.
