(Making Sense of Suffering) Barry Hinkle 05/25/14

Message: Worth it All

James 1:2-4 (NIV)
2
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,

whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3
because you know that the
testing of your faith produces perseverance.
4
Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and
complete, not lacking anything.

Questions to ask during trials:

Am I responding in the flesh or in the Spirit? (Gal 5:16)
Am I fighting people or the devil? (Eph 6:12)
What is God trying to teach me? (1 Peter 1:6-7)
What will it matter in 100 years? (Gal 6:7-8)

Only one life, twill soon be past; only whats done for Christ will last. ~ CT Studd

Am I citizen or pilgrim?

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV)
16
Therefore we do not lose heart.

Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly

we are being renewed day by
day.
17
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

18
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen
is eternal.

Questions about heaven:

Does the idea of heaven excite me, really?
Will we have physical bodies? (2 Cor 5:1-2 NIV)
Will we have emotions? (Rev 18:20)
Will heaven be boring?

Psalm 16:11
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Joy is the serious business of heaven. ~ C.S. Lewis

Will we learn? (Eph 2:6-7)
Will we work?
Is it going to be worth it?

1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written:

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for
those who love Him.
