Demo Presentation Guidelines
Demonstrative presentations need to include the following parts and be aligned with the Grade-level Expectations of
the Department of Education (DE). (They can be found online)
. Title slide: !ncludes the presentations title" presenters name" presentation date and event.
#. Short Biography: $ho are you% $hat is your teaching experience% Describe your classroom environment
and your students.
&. Educational Philosophy: 'hilosophical bases for your pedagogy. This is a personal statement of the guiding
principles that affect how you teach. These may include your beliefs on the role of educators in the classroom"
school" community and society. (lso" how student learning and potential are most effectively maximi)ed.
*. DE Grade-level Expectations: The s+ills developed through the writing-learning activity are to be aligned
with the grade-level expectations.
,. Introduction: -riefly introduce the practice. (ssess audience.s experience and +nowledge of the sub/ect.
Explain the theory behind the presentation (teaching0learning theory and the professional literature).
1. Materials: 2ist the materials needed and prior preparations.
3. Steps to ollo! in the activity: 'rovide modeling and explain how to carry out the activity with students in a
classroom. 'rovide ideas of how this can be adapted for students with special needs or how the activity can be
extended.

Audience:
This activity has been originally designed for Upper Elementary English class. However, it can be adapted to any
Elementary English/Spanish class depending on the standards/skills that the teacher wold like to introdce, reinforce.
Objectives:

Use basic organi$ational patterns to constrct descriptive paragraphs.
%pply prewriting strategies to generate ideas.
#dentify spelling, capitali$ation, and ending pnctation errors.

Procedure:
The teacher will begin the class by reviewing the fnction of ad.ectives and descriptive paragraph.
The teacher will pt the stdents in pairs.
The teacher will give instrctions to the stdents for them draw a monster withot showing it to other grops.

%fter drawing the monster, stdent grops will write a paragraph describing their drawing.
The teacher will collect the paragraphs and e*change them between grops.
Stdents will draw a new monster based on the descriptive paragraph the other grop wrote.
Stdents will compare their drawing with the original drawing from the first grop. %fter the comparison, the
grops will revise and edit the first grop3s paragraph.
Stdents will share their work at the end of the class in the %thor3s 2hair.
