Becerra, Tracy Ann, et al. "Ambient Air Pollution And Autism In Los Angeles County,
California." Environmental Health Perspectives 121.3 (2013): 380-386. Academic Search
Complete. Web. 15 Apr. 2014
Tracy Becerra is a research associate at Kaiser Permanente. She established a federal
grant Early Start program and also worked as an occupational therapist at Pediatric
Therapy Network. She has also done many researches on her own about healthcare and
different health effects caused by air pollution published on Huffington Post. She also
had a broadcast on NBC about her researches.
The publisher of this article is the Environmental Health Perspective. The intended
audiences are those who are affected by air pollution in the Los Angeles area. It is also
for the parents who have children that are diagnosed with Autism. The purpose of this
article is to show the audience how air pollution can link to autism in kids.
This article is useful in that it provides data showing how mothers who gave birth in Los
Angeles had children who were diagnosed with Autism disorder.
I plan to use this source to argue that although the Los Angeles County has made efforts
in improving air quality, it is still a problem due to the fact that automobiles are
increasing. The results in this article states that exposures to ambient pollutants shows
some correlation to autism disorder and birth defects related to traffic sources.
Brook, Robert, et al. "Air Pollution and Cardiovascular Disease." Air Pollution and
Cardiovascular Disease. N.p., n.d. Web. 12 Apr. 2014.
Robert Brook is a professor of medicine and health policy and management. He received
his M.D from the John Hopkins Medical School and is a member of the Institute of

Medicine, the American Society for Clinical Investigation. He has also served for 19
years as Distinguished Chair in Health care services at the RAND Corporation. The
publisher of this article is the American Heart Association. They published this article to
inform their readers about the causes of health problems and how it is linked to Air
pollution. The intended audience for this article would be those who are affected by heart
disease or those who live in cities with large amounts of air pollution. This source can
help the reader learn more about the causes of air pollution and what times of pollutants
are emitted to the air and how this is related to heart disease. Although this source was
published in 2004, it provides a lot of history about air pollution and the effects it has on
people living near cities with large amount of air pollution.
Fine, Philip, Polidori, Andrea. "Ambient Concentrations of Criteria and Air Toxic Pollutants in
Close Proximity to a Freeway with Heavy-Duty Diesel Traffic." South Coast Air Quality
Management District, Apr. 2012. Web. 17 Apr. 2014.
Andrea Polidori is a research assistant professor at the University of Southern California.
His research focuses on PM
2.5
in both indoor and outdoor environments. Philip Fine is the
assistant deputy executive officer for planning at the South Coast Air Quality
Management District. He was also a research assistant professor at USC, where he taught
about the health effects caused by air pollution.
This article provides data collected from several years on the amount of air pollutants that
are emitted into the air. It also talks about the effects of living near highly congested
freeways. The report also compared different sites where air pollution may occur and
explains why one location has more air pollutants than the other.

Ritz, Beate, Wilhelm, Michelle. "Air Pollution Impacts on Infants and Children." Air Pollution
Impacts on Infants and Children, UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability.
N.p., n.d. Web. 8 Apr. 2014.
Beate Ritz is a professor and vice chair of the Department of Epidemiology with co-
appointments in the department of Environmental Health at UCLA. Her primary interest
includes effects of occupational and environmental toxins such as air pollution,
pesticides, and ionizing radiation. Michelle Wilhelm is an assistant professor in residence
in the Department of Epidemiology and a member of the Center for Occupation and
Environmental Health at UCLA. Her research focuses on the impact of environmental
exposures on early childhood health.
The publisher of this article is the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability of
UCLA. The intended audiences are residents near UCLA and the Los Angeles area who
are affected by air pollution. The purpose of this article is to inform the readers about the
harm air pollution has on infants and children.
This article is useful in that it provides information and data on how bad air affects
children. I plan to use this source to show how air pollution has not only affects on adults
but also in children as well. Although this source was published in 2008 it still provides
evidence of the effects of air pollution.
