yarn colors: R=red, B=blue, G= green, Y=yellow and O=orange. Design a scarf using at least three colors. Create between 7 and 12 stripes
Write the letter (R, B, G, Y, or O) to represent each color in your design.
1) The relationship between all of the stripes to one type of yarn color used.
3) The relationship between one type of yarn color stripes and another type of yarn color stripes.
2) The relationship between one type of yarn used and all the types of yarn used
4) The relationship between red yarn strips to non-green stripes.
Write 4 ratios that can be used to mathematically describe the scarf you designed.
Part A The cost to make each stripe is shown below. Red Yarn
$6.75 for a ball of yarn that makes 15 red stripes Blue Yarn
$8.00 for a ball of yarn that makes 25 blue stripes Green Yarn
$12.00 for a ball of yarn that makes 25 green stripes Yellow Yarn
$5.50 for a ball of yarn that makes 20 yellow stripes Orange Yarn
$ 4.35 for a ball of yarn that makes 26 orange stripes
You have been given one ball of yarn of each type of color that you have selected. Based on your design, how many complete scarves can you make before you run out of one type of yarn? Explain your answer using diagrams, mathematical expressions, and/or words.
PART B Calculating the Costs
1.) The cost of putting your label on the scarf is $0.35. Using the information from Part A, determine the cost to create one of the scarves you designed. Explain your answer using diagrams, mathematical expressions, and/or words.
2.) In Part A, you determined the number of complete scarves you could make before running out of one type of yarn. Determine the cost to create this number of scarves. Explain your answer using diagrams, mathematical expressions, and/or words.
Part C
Longer Scarves
The styles are changing and your customers want longer scarves.
The cost of a larger label for a larger scarf is $0.40. Your scarf is 2 feet long.
1.) Determine the cost to create a 6 foot long scarf that contains the same ratios of stripes as your shorter scarf contains. Explain your answer using diagrams, mathematical expressions, and/or words.
2.) How many of each type of yarn colored stripes will be needed to create a 6 foot scarf? Explain your answer using diagrams, pictures, mathematical expressions, and/or words.
Part D Predicting Profits
You decide that you will set the price for each short scarf and long scarf so that you will make a profit that is 70% of the cost to make each scarf.
1.) Determine the price at which your short scarf and long scarf will be sold. Explain your answer using diagrams, pictures, mathematical expressions, and/or words.
2.) You would also like to offer discounted prices for customers who buy sets of 3 short scarves. When customers buy sets of 3 short scarves, you will make a profit that is 60% of the cost to make each short scarf. Determine the price at which a set of 3 short scarves will be sold. Explain your answer using diagrams, pictures, mathematical expressions, and/or words.
3.) The list below shows the scarves that were sold at your store.
8 sets of 3 short scarves 5 long scarves 15 individual short scarves
Determine the total profit you made from selling these scarves. Explain your answer using diagrams, mathematical expressions, and/or words.
