(10-15 minutes) 1- Engaging the reader, What is a main idea? What is a detail? How do we find them in the text? Record
definitions of both on Anchor chart/Smart board.
2- Introduce Text, What do you think the book is going to be about looking at the picture and title?
3- Purpose for reading, finding the main idea/key details while listening to story

(20-25 minutes) 1- Read aloud text Ryan Hreljac: The Boy Who Built a Well from Canada who is determined to help
people from Uganda. Use map to point out both countries.
2-Prior to reading, Why might he want to help?
3- Read Aloud
4- Independent work, Students will go back to seat and use TodaysMeet.com using laptop or ipads or to answer question
of 1 Main Idea and 1 Key Detail. Share first 1 main detail with class. Next, share 1 key detail from text with class.

Sharing with class main idea and details that were shared. Discuss benefits of using TodaysMeet for answering questions
and sharing ideas with peers.
