Renewable SOURCES
OF ENERGY
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY
Power generated from heat energy derived from hot
rock, hot water or steam below the earth's surface.
The Philippines is the second largest producer of
geothermal power in the world.
Current geothermal service contracts:
(6) Laguna, Sorsogon, Albay, Negros Oriental, Leyte and
Davao.
Power generated: 16.70%
Energy mix: 22.40%

HYDRO-ELECTRIC ENERGY
Derived from the force or energy of moving water,
which may be harnessed for useful purposes.
More than 10% of electricity requirements supplied
by hydropower generation.
Classification:
Micro-hydro (1-100kW)
Mini-hydro (101kW-10mW)
Large-hydro (>10mW)
Power generated: 15.80%
Energy mix: 5.10%

Magat Dam
Ramon, Isabela
SOLAR ENERGY
The conversion of sunlight into electricity, either using
photovoltaic (PV) or concentrated solar power (CSP).
PV: employs solar panels composed of a number of solar cells
containing a photovoltaic material.
CSP: systems that use mirrors or lenses to concentrate a large area
of sunlight onto a small area. The concentrated light is converted
to heat which drives a steam turbine) connected to an electrical
power generator.

energy, such as using wind turbines to make
electricity.

BIOMASS
Biological material from living, or recently living
organisms which can be used directly, or converted into
other energy products such as biofuel.
Can be converted to methane gas or transportation fuel
like ethanol or biodiesel.
Green Power Panay Philippines Inc.
owns eleven hectares of land in Barangay
Cabalabaguan, in the town of Mina, Iloilo which is
dedicated to the GPPPI power plant and biomass
storage area.
Energy Mix: 13.60%
