Course Syllabus 2014-2015

Classroom Model:
This is a learning focused class that follows the CCGPS (Common Core Georgia Performance
Standards). I plan to hit every standard over and over so that means we will highlight:

Speaking and listening
Conventions (grammar)
Literacy and informational reading
Writing

For more information on CCGPS, follow the website at https://www.georgiastandards.org/Common-
Core/Pages/default.aspx.

Materials Needed:
2 inch, 3-ring binder
Composition book
Paper (college ruled preferred)
Pencils
Red Pen
Highlighters
Dry Erase Markers
Index Cards
Flash Drive (It does not matter how much memory it can hold, but keep in mind that you will use
this throughout the rest of your school years.)
Professional, working e-mail (It is so important to have an e-mail established for correspondence
purposes. Create a professional one if you do not have one created already.)
Coloring utensil of your choice (markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc.)

Class Rules:
I follow the student handbook.
Follow the dress code!
Be well behaved in class. Youre 10
th
graders so act like youre responsible enough to be trusted
on the roads where lives are at stake.
Dont touch my stuff unless I tell you to. Its mine. Buy your own.
Bring paper and something to write with every day. Youll need it.
No phones or headphones in class.
o The first time this happens, I will take the phone up and keep it the rest of the class period.
If it is at the end of class, Ill keep it through the next class period. If this is a recurring
issue, then the phone will be sent to the front office where your parents will have to pick it
up. Teachers are not responsible for damage to phones.
Be ready for a quiz every Friday. Itll be a comprehensive quiz over what weve learned
throughout the week. Thatll include reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. Study!

Evaluation:

Assignments Percentage of Grade
-Daily Work 20%
-Quizzes 15%
-Tests 25%
-Projects 30%
-Final Exam 10%

Make-up Work:
Make-up work is YOUR responsibility. It should be completed and turned in according to the schools
policy. Tests and quizzes will have to be made up before or after school unless you schedule a specific
time with me.

Final Examination Exemption:
The schools policy for exempting the final exam will be followed in this class.

Cheating/Plagiarism:
Along with the other class rules, I feel it necessary to give this issue its own section. Cheating and/or
plagiarism will NEVER be tolerated. Anyone caught cheating will be given a zero on the assignment
without opportunity for a makeup. Copying information from sources without citing the author is
prohibited. Copying and using work produced by other students (or allowing another to copy ones work)
will result in a zero for both parties.

Remind101:
I use a program called Remind101 to communicate with parents and students as well as SchoolWay.
Please follow the below directions to register for this program. It does not cost anything other than
standard text messaging rates.

Please send a text message to the number 205-703-2147 and enter the message as @wil10thlit. This
will allow you to receive text messages from me through a program called Remind101.

Please return this page to me by Friday, September 5, 2014

Parents:

Please use Infinite Campus, (our schools online grade book), to stay abreast of your students grades and
progress. Theres even an app that updates the grade and notifies you after Ive entered any new grade.
Its very motivational for students to know that their grades are being monitored.

There will be no books sent home, but we will occasionally have homework assignments as
reinforcement for skills learned in class or projects, but it wont be nightly.

If you every wish to discuss anything with me, please try email first: jennifer.wilson@murray.k12.ga.us
Please email me so I can create a contact list for class news.

I can also be reached by phone at 706-695-7760 EXT 6524. I am the Drama Director and Theater
Technician for our school, so I am almost always in practice until 5:30 P.M. every day if not later. If it is
an emergency, please feel free to call me during the day, but please know that e-mail is the best way to
reach me for the aforementioned reasons.

I believe we will have a great year and learn as much as possible. If I didnt believe that, I wouldnt do
this job.

Sincerely,
Ms. Jennifer Wilson
