1015minutes Introduction to Activity
The teacher will hold up a fiction and non-fiction
book and ask students which book is informative
and which book tells a story.

Then, the teacher will ask the students to think
about two texts that they know
(informative/story). The students will pair with a
classmate and discuss the texts.
The students will talk with a partner
about the two books presented by the
teacher. They will determine whether or
not it is non-fiction or fiction. They will
share the elements they know in
non-fiction and fiction texts.
15minutes
Teacher will start the presentation on fiction and
non-fiction texts using the Promethean Board.
Teacher will ask volunteers to participate in some
activities in the lesson (i.e. classification, multiple
choice, text elements, games, etc). When lesson
is done, teacher will ask students if they have any
questions and then get them started on a group
activity.
Students will pay attention to the
presentation on fiction and non-fiction
texts. Students who volunteer will come
up to the Promethean Board to participte
in the activities (classification, multiple
choice, text elements, games, etc).
Students may ask any questions.
20minutes
The teacher will give directions for the students
to work In groups of 4 to create a Venn-diagram
using markers, poster paper, etc. The teacher
will instruct students to classify elements of
non-fiction and fictional works into similarities
and differences. The teacher will ask students to
incorporate drawings from their personal
reading histories onto the Venn Diagram to
demonstrate they know the differences
between non-fictional and fictional works.
Students will work together in groups of
four to create a Venn Diagram using the
provided materials. Working together,
students will classify the elements of
fiction and non-fictional works by writing
them (similarities and differences).
Students will incorporate drawings from
both fictional and non-fictional works
they have read into the Venn Diagram.
510minutes Closure to Activity
Students will go on a Gallery Walk around the
classroom to observe their classmates posters.
Students will walk quietly in groups. They
will return to the carpet and they will talk
about the similarities and differences
that they noticed in each others
diagrams.
