Our culture mainly
consists of the Punjabis,
Kashmiris, and Siddhis.
During the holy month
of Ramadan all Muslims
must fast from dawn to
dusk. Fasting includes
no eating, drinking,
cigarette smoking, or
gum chewing.
Loyalty to family comes
before any other
relationships.
Families are much
larger.
Major social holidays or
events like Eid and
weddings are celebrated
with the whole family
together. This includes
immediate family,
cousins, immediate
relatives, distant
relatives, friends, and
neighbors.
The older the person
the more wise he or she
is considered. They get
the most respect and
they make the decisions

country. Although
Hindi and English
are used officially,
more than 1,500
languages and
dialects are spoken.

recognizes 15
regional languages
(Assamese, Bengali,
Gujarati, Hindi,
Kannada, Kashmiri,
Malayalam, Marathi,
Oriya, Punjabi,
Sanskrit, Sindhi,
Tamil, Telugu, and
Urdu.
Indian cuisine
includes dishes
made from spices,
herbs, vegetables,
and fruits. Indian
food is also heavily
influenced by
religious and
cultural choices and
traditions.
Hindi and English
are India's official
languages, but there
are also 17 regional
languages that are
considered official.
