DAY $ THE PARAL\ZED lilAN (opening)

Welcome back to our last day of SonWorld Adventure Park Vacation Bible School. What choices
have we had this week? We heard a story about a blind man and that we Choose to Believe. We
heard about the Ten Sick lvlen and how we can Choose to Act. Wl-lat choice are we going to
hear about today?
lrs
Today we can ask Jesus to forgivejdfor the things we do wrong. So we can CHOOSE
FORGI\ENESS. What are we going to say when the site leaders ask about our choice? That's
right, say loudly-
"Choose
Forgiveness."
Do
you know what para[aed means? lt means you can't move. You cant walk.
Once there was a man who was paratged-
his legs couldn't move. Someone had to carry hirn
everywhere he went- there were no wheelchairs in Bible times! Since the man couldn't walk he
couldn't work; he probably
had to beg forfood. One good thing about his life was that he had four
good ftiends.
They had heard about Jesus and allthe wonderful things he had done. He had made a blind man
see and had cured men with a tenible skn disease. He also curd many other people who were
sick. They also heard he was in their toarn!
The paralped man's friends decided, 'We'lltake our friend to see Jesus. Jesus can make his
legs well!" What do you think the paralped
man thought about that? l-le said,
"What
if Jesus is
too busy to see me?" The friends said, "We hear that he loves to help people. Alrd you definitely
need help. Let's go and see him."
The four friends each tool a corner of the para[6zed man's cot and off they went. What a bumpy
ride for the man, but his ftiends never gave up, no matter hour tired they got. When they arrived
at the house where Jesus was, they saw crowds of people everywhere. They were crowded in
the house; they filled the front yard and the backyard. How were they ever
going to get the
paralped
man close enough to see Jesus?
The friends alllooked around and had an idea!
"How
about the roof?" they said. The rooff What
were they going to do if they got the paralyzed
man on the rooff lwill let you hear the rest of the
story as you (to fom site to site.
Before we go, let's practice the songs we have been learning. Later today, your families and
friends will be here to listen to the songs you have learned and hear about what you have done
this week
Sing songs. Don'tforget-todat's choice is CHOOSE FORGI\ENESS.

to see Jesus. They were going up on the roof. Did they get
to the roof) What did they do when they got up there?
fibst rmft in bible times were made from branches and clay. The friends opened a hole in the
roof and lowered the para[6ed man down right in front of Jesus. What were the two things
Jesus knew the parafged man needed? (His sins to be forgiven and healing) So Jesus said to
him,
"Your
sins areforgiven."
What did the other people in the room thinl (l'brr could Jesus forgive sins? Only Cod could
forgive sins.) This is what they had been taught. Jesus said to them, "Why do you not
underctand? I have the power to both forgive sins and heal."
Jesus sairJ to the paralyed
man, 'Get up. Pick up your mat and
go home." Suddenly the man
knew something was different. Fle could move his legs! He was so excited! He got up,
picked up
his mat, and began to walk-rightthrough the crowd and out of the house!
The healed man could feel the starm of the pople as he walked home. He could hear them
mutter, "Who is this Jesus?" The man must have smiled to himself- lknow who Jesus is! He is
God's promised Savior, who heals the sickand forgives sins!
Jesus knew the parallzd man wanted to be healed. But Jesus also knew that the man needed
^
to be forgiven for the wrong things he had done. We all have done things we should not have

done. That's why we need forgiveness. Jesus will help us in lots of ways, but the best thing he

does for us is to forgive us if we ask Him to. Each one of us can CHOOSE FORGI\ENESS.
