EXPECTATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Upon entering the classroom, students must complete daily warm-up assignments which will be at a
work station. These warm-up assignments will be on various topics ranging from reading
comprehension, written or oral responses to prompts, to mini grammar and usage lessons. There will be
daily instructions for the warm-up assignments posted on the board.
The following materials must accompany you to class:
*Notebook
*Binder or folder
*Writing implement
*Text book
ATTENDANCE is extremely important in order to understand and keep up with assignments, since we
cover quite a bit of material in each class. Should a student or a parent need to contact me, use my email
or call the school (729-6400). If a student needs help, he/she can visit me for help before school or after
school.
If a student misses a test or assignment, it is he/she responsibility to make-up the work within two
weeks. If not completed during this time frame, the assignment cannot be made-up.
Students need to arrive on-time to class with required materials. If a student is late to class, he/she will
be required to report to class after school.
In order to graduate, students must pass four years of English (every semester).

CURRICULUM

Grade 12 English focuses on analysis, critical thinking, and text evaluation through the examination of
literary and informational text. Also, the college essay is developed and written. The curriculum
introduces and reinforces critical reading expectations, thesis development, and the use of rhetoric and
tone in college-level writing aligning with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Grade Span
Expectations (GSE). Daily assignments are used as practice tools for students to master concepts.
These formative assessments are used to determine student progress and will be used to direct future
instruction. Grades will be based on both formative assessments (daily assignments and classroom
work) and summative assessments (tests, essays, projects, and tasks).
The literature considered during the course will be on fictional and nonfictional/informative text.
