This isnt a required follow, but you may find this incredibly useful.

On the website, under the ICT tab, you will find downloadable assignments (so that there are NO I didnt
know what to do! excuses), scheduled due dates for assignments, an assignment drop box and a schedule
of events.

Also, there is a Contact Me tab, when you can email me directly. If you know that you will be absent
for a class, please send me a quick note so that I know.





I nstructi onal Phi l osophy:

Information Technology 12 is a computer course in which students build on the skills developed in ICT
11/12. Quite often, the principles learned in ICT 11/12 are taken and further investigated through self-
guided exploration and peer collaboration. Students gain computer skills that are highly demanded at
home, school and work. Students broaden their skills in game design, coding, website development,
multimedia, and programming.

I firmly believe that respect is one of the most important aspects of any classroom. That respect needs
to be all-encompassing (for yourself, for me, for the physical classroom, for each other). I think that I am
flexible and fair, but I have high expectations for all students.

I think that all education, no matter what the subject is, needs to be discussed, talked about and dissected
in order to be effectively studied. This means that you should be prepared to discuss what you have
learned and your opinions on a variety of subjects. I will be setting aside some time each week to meet as
a group to discuss issues/problems/roadblocks/hurdles that are faced and have a round table discussion. I
always want our classroom to be free from judgment and open to discussions.

Course Assessment & Eval uati on:

You will notice that there are fewer assignments/projects in ICT 12, but each one has a significantly
higher weighting. Each unit will involve a great deal of discussion between the students and the
instructor.

" It is your responsibility to keep track of due dates and your results on assignments in order
to monitor your progress in this course. With a greater weighting for each project, your
success hinges on staying on task.

Students are provided a sufficient amount of class time to complete their assignments. This
allows the teacher to give instant and on-going feedback; the teacher expects nothing less than
quality end-products.

" Assignments MUST be handed in on time
Late assignments will be counted as missing (i.e. zero) until they are marked, usually at a
much later time. Students may request an extension before the deadline, and it is only granted
on an individual basis under special circumstances. Again, at this level, self-motivation is not
only important, but expected.

" The skills that you develop in this course may lead you to a possible career. Treat this
environment seriously, but have fun and enjoy what you are doing. These are very relevant
skills that you are building!!






Equi pment requi red for thi s course:

$ USB Flash Drive
$ Headphones or ear buds (2.5 mm jack)
$ Pen, pencil, and eraser (I know, this sounds ridiculous, but some people like to keep notes)

Recommended:
o Smartphone or suitable hand-held device (WIFI-ready)

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device): If you have one, bring it!!
$ You are responsible for the safety and reliability of your own device
$ There is often software that you can download on your own device, which allows for a higher-
quality end product. We are limited with what the district can install. Needless to say, its not
always the best out there.


Expectati ons for I nfo & Comm Tech 12:


! Students are responsible for keeping their digital workstations organized and free of clutter.
Student networks are only 500MB, so be sure to bring a flash drive to save non web-based work.

! Students may NOT eat or drink in the lab. If a snack is needed, you may eat at the front of the
room, close to the double doors. Only water bottles and travel mugs are allowed at work stations.

! Students may listen to MP3 players and handhelds during individual work time, but devices must
be removed from the ears and turned off until I give the green light. Sorry, but streaming
YouTube is NOT permitted. It slows down the broadband, and we need all of the computer power
that we can!!

! Texting is not permitted during class time... EVER. If a student is caught texting in class (and
concentrating on your lap is a bit of a giveaway), I will confiscate the device and return it to the
student at the end of the class. If it gets to be a real issue, I will take the device down to the
office and the student can pick it up from an administrator.

! Facebook: Ah, the bane of every teachers classroom. Honestly, I dont mind it..outside of
work time.

! The Powell Negative S-Word Rule
o I have had this rule for my entire career, and in every school that I have taught in.
o I believe that people need to really THINK about what is coming out of their mouths in
terms of communication. It is verbalizing who you are as an individual.

! Coding, hacking or reprogramming school hardware and/or software is strictly prohibited. This
is inexcusable, and may result in the student being banned district computers for a specified period
of time. Serious offenses will be dealt with on the district level (which is NOT good).
