Outcomes to be assessed
H7 explains the relationship between physiology and movement potential
H8 explains how a variety of training approaches and other interventions enhance
performance and safety in physical activity
H10 designs and implements training plans to improve performance

Assessment Details:

Task Number: One
Course Component: HSC Core 2 Factors affecting performance
Mark: /22
Weighting: 20%
Date Due: 7/11/14

Task Description

You have been appointed the role of Sports Physiologist for a professional athlete in a sport
of your choice. You are to submit a written report examining the factors that must be
considered when training an athlete and be able to examine what may affect their
performance in their sport. Your report should be able to be used in an initial consultation
with the athlete and their coach as a guide to their training.

Your report should include the following;
An outline of the sport and analysis of the energy systems involved in performance of
the main movement patterns.
How do the types of training and training methods positively affect an athletes
performance
An examination on how the types of training, the principles of training and the
physiological adaptations can impact on improved performance.

Your report should be clear and logically presented using headings and sections. A quality
report will provide relevant examples to support the information and include a bibliography
listing sources of information for the report.

Assessment Criteria
You will be marked on your ability to;
Outline a specific sport and analyse the importance of energy systems to the performance of
an elite athlete in the stated sport.
How can the relevant training methods be applied to improve performance in the stated
sport.
Examine in detail the relationship between the principles of training, physiological
adaptations and improved performance.
