Blue Valley West Science National Honor Society

What is SciNHS?

Science National Honor Society is a group that is dedicated to spreading the knowledge
and appreciation of science around Blue Valley West.
The vision of SciNHS is to encourage and recognize scientific and intellectual thought
that advances Blue Valley West students knowledge of science and to encourage the
pursuit of knowledge that benefits all.

What are the requirements to become a member of the Honor Society?

Juniors will need to have at least one honors or AP class taken during or prior to their
current year in school.
Seniors will need to have completed at least two honors or AP class during or prior to
their current year.
Members will also need to must have and maintain a 3.0-4.0 weighted GPA while
remaining a member of the club.

What is Science Club?

Science club is an exciting opportunity for freshman and sophomores who cannot be a
part of the SciNHS because of its limitation to Juniors and Seniors but still want to be
involved in the school science community. Science club members will be invited to take
part in all SciNHS activities.

What does SciNHS do?

SciNHS will participate in many activities throughout the year. SciNHS activities will
include taking part in science competitions around the area and also helping younger
students succeed in their own science competitions in open workshops at middle schools.
SciNHS meetings will include multiple exciting opportunities to enrich our knowledge of
science. Activities will include interactive student led lectures, hands-on experiments,
and guests lectures from science experts. Outside of school, there will be opportunities to
tour science research facilities and have science-related field trips such as Union Station.

What are important dates to remember?

All applications to be a part of SciNHS will be due on November 18th in room 310.
Meetings will be held on the first and third Thursdays of every month.
An induction ceremony will be held on December 4th. Formal attire will be required and
parents are welcome.
Officer elections are to be held at our first meeting on December 4th after school. This
will include two positions for Juniors and Seniors and one position for a Science Club
Representative in the freshman and sophomore class.
