Welcome to November
Our big ideas this month will be Shapes, Bears and Hibernation.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Our parent teacher interviews will be held over two days. They will be held in our
classroom on Thursday, November 20th, in the evening and in the morning on Friday,
November 21st. Please come at your scheduled interview time to help our interview
process run smoothly.

Curriculum Focus
Language Arts
We are continually learning songs and poems related to our themes, doing experience
charts, predictable charts, reading, and listening to stories. We are learning to print
and copy letters and words. We are almost finished reviewing the first group of letter
sounds in Jolly Phonics; S, A, T, I, P, N. We will begin our second group of letter sounds;
CK, E, H, R. We are using our letter knowledge to help us begin some early reading
practice.
Math
We are continuing with patterning and sorting activities. We are using manipulatives to
help us recognize quantities without having to count. We will begin looking at and doing
many activities with both 2D and 3D shapes.
Science/Health

We will continue to observe and discuss the changing seasons. Students will learn how to
describe and represent using their own observations, patterns and cycles in the natural
world. We will talk about about what people and animals do to prepare for winter.
Social Studies
Our Character Education focus for this month is RESPECT.
Kindergarten classes will discuss, recognize and observe Remembrance Day within our
classrooms. Furthermore, we will be attending an assembly on Tuesday, November 11th.
We will present a very short
poem in front of the school on this day. These are the
words:
Ill wear a little poppy,
as red as red can be,
to show that I remember,
those who fought for me.

Tips for Parents

The following website, http://www.jollylearning.co.uk/, offers a more in-depth look at
the Jolly Phonics language program we are using in our classroom. We invite you to
take a look. Continue working on the Jolly Phonics letter sheets sent home each
Friday!
When you return home from grocery shopping have your child help you by sorting the
items that belong together (cans, bottles, etc.) and also sort the items that are stored
in the freezer, those for the fridge, and those for the cupboards. Other counting
games include;
Counting objects ranging from 1 to 10 or more!
If your child is very familiar with numbers from 1 to 10, try higher numbers.
Play store with your child to give him/her the idea of money.
Talk about eating nutritious meals and snacks and the important steps to follow to
keep our teeth healthy.
Needed
Please try to send your child to school in clothes that they can manage independently.
We are celebrating many successes doing it ourselves!
