What is the goal or challenge

to be met? To which FEAP
does this goal/challenge
apply? Describe the context
and the issue.
Goal: To design and execute
interdisciplinary lessons that:
combine at least two academic
subject areas into one activity;
incorporate students' prior
knowledge, background
information, past life
experiences, etc.
FEAP: Instructional Delivery
and Facilitation. The effective
educator consistently utilizes a
deep and comprehensive
knowledge of the subject taught
to: Relate and integrate the
subject matter with other
disciplines and life experiences.
Rationale: To ensure learning
is meaningful and relevant to
the students.

Goal Setting

What have you already done

to meet this goal or challenge?
I have merged the academic
subject areas of reading, writing,
mathematics and various
elements of the arts (drama,
illustration, etc.) with the
academic subject area of Social
Studies.

What feedback related to this

goal or challenge have you
been given by your
Collaborating Teacher and
University Supervisor?
My University Supervisor has
provided me feedback regarding
my ability to appropriately
create a connection(s) between
the students previous
knowledge and the new topic at
the start of each lesson, my
inclusion of important
vocabulary to tie social studies
into language arts, and my use of
a social studies trade book to
supplement a reading/writing
lesson. My Collaborating
Teacher has provided me
feedback regarding: my use of
students experiences in and
out of school" during
collaborative whole-group and
small group discussion; my
ability to tap into students
prior knowledge" during
lessons; my inclusion of several
examples from students" into
the lesson; and my use of "well
developed (planned)
questions" throughout the
lesson.

What are your next steps?
Include an explanation of a
timeline for taking those
steps. If your goal or challenge
has been met, this may
include a new goal or
challenge.
First, I plan to further extend my
integration of social studies with
the mathematics. I would like to
accomplish this goal within the
first month of final internship.
Second, I plan to merge science
instruction with social studies,
specifically through the use of a
class service-learning project. I
would like to accomplish this
goal within the first 1-2 months
of final internship.
Third, I plan to integrate the arts
into each academic discipline
throughout the school day,
whether it is through
illustration, roleplaying, etc. I
would like to accomplish this
goal within the first 2-3 months
of final internship.

Goal Setting

In what ways have you

collaborated with your
teacher to reach this goal or
challenge?
My collaborating teacher
informs/emails me her lesson
plans each week (including the
focus, LEQ, and daily goals) for
each academic subject area in
order for me to effectively
design lessons that are
interdisciplinary, merging social
studies with language arts,
mathematics, and science.

In what ways have you taken

that feedback into
consideration?
I have administered preassessments prior to beginning
lessons to review/build
upon students' prior knowledge
and background information.
I have also helped my
Collaborating Teacher to create
a more inclusive word wall
consisting of words/phrases
used in all academic areas
(specifically reading,
mathematics, and social studies)
in order for students to see the
direct relationship between
each discipline.
I have also used various
supplementary texts to merge
reading with social studies
instruction.
What evidence do you have that supports your process of
meeting this goal or challenge?
