Self-Assessment: For this draft, I went through and corrected the grammatical errors from the
previous one. I also restated some sentences differently. This draft was more of a refinement
rather than an expansion of the first one.
Literary Paradigm
People are not born knowing how to read. Reading literature is a skill that must be
learned. Usually someone teaches the ability to read. For some, it is easier to learn because they
have access to more resources. The passion to read is what drives someone to learn to read, not
necessarily to resources. If you work hard enough you can achieve what you want.
Literature is more than just words that form sentences. It is about the message that the
author of the literature wants to convey to an audience. Understanding what is written means that
you can comprehend what the intent of the author was. Since there are so many genres, it can be
difficult for someone who has little experience to know what the message was. That is where
sponsors of literacy can help. My interpretation of a sponsor of literature is someone or
something that truly helps you to understand literature.
In my life my parents have been my primary sponsors. They have pushed me to think
harder about what I read in books. They have pointed out the importance of reading and writing.

What my parents have taught me is that literature opens doors in our minds, to think about what
we have not though about before. Reading informative literature is how we learn new ideas.
Even reading a story makes you imagine what the characters and locations look like. Their help
as a sponsor is effective to an extent. My parents do not speak or read English very well so they
may not be as helpful as they can with specific pieces of writing. The other sponsors collectively
are my own teachers. In school you learn all about literature and what it means. The literature
taught gets more advanced the following year and you learn how to analyze them differently and
more effectively. Without years of learning, understanding higher levels of literature would be a
challenge.
I feel that all those years of learning in school is adequate for understanding literature
today. The access to sponsors that I have had should more or less be similar to what others have
gone through. Most people have had family or someone close to talk about literature and we
have had teachers to thoroughly go over literature and its intricacies. Their sponsors may vary in
effectiveness but there is a pattern as to who their sponsor is. Others might say their sponsor is
someone less direct such as the author of their favorite book. Their literary experience is what
drove people to peruse their own literary course.
If I had a more personnel connection with an author, then they would be an excellent
sponsor. Instead of just reading their works or copying their styles and tropes, I could ask
personal questions and responses. A sponsor like that would be great because they can use their
experience and knowledge to help guide and figure out our own style of literature. What makes
them different is that they have had their success and there are proven to be effective.
Sponsors of literacy are what help guide people through complicated literary problems.
From learning to read to fully understanding what was writing and the message that was being

portrayed. Our sponsors may be different but have the same purpose and without them the level
at which people seek to learn would not be the same.
