UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:

- Grade 2 Standard 8- The Atmosphere
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
- Given specific education websites, students will be able to write the description of each season including
its precipitation, climate, and characteristics through an interactive activity with 100% accuracy.
-

Given the educational website and notes from class, students will make a short PowerPoint presentation
for homework about the characteristics of the four seasons, with 100% accuracy and efficiency.

Learners are expected to pay attention during the lecture and explanation of the website and instructions.
Learners will all participate in completing the interactive activity while displaying excellent behavior.

STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
- Standard 0207.8.1: Use records and graphs of seasonal temperature changes to draw conclusions about
the weather during different times of the year.
ISTE Standard 3: Research and Information Fluency- b) locate, organize, analyze, evaluate,
synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media.
MATERIALS:
-

Projector for teacher

Individual student computers
Paper
Pencil

Microsoft Word
Pointer for teacher
Microsoft Power Point

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

-

Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of the different weather occurring during the four
different seasons along with its general characteristics.
Academic language is not covered in IDT-3600.
This lesson is an introductory lesson and will build a solid foundation for future weather and climate
studies in further grade levels.

I plan on using this lesson as a stepping stone into further studies on the atmosphere and how weather
affects different areas of the world.
The lesson or technology use will be modified to meet the needs of diverse learners.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

-

Introduction: To begin the lesson, I will explain the directions in front of the classroom on behavior
and what is expected out of the students during this activity. I will begin the assignment by asking each
student to turn on their computer in front of them and wait for my next instruction.

15 Minutes: the teacher will open the overhead presentation explaining the activity and giving a brief
lecture on the four seasons and the different characteristics and precipitation that comes along with each
season. Students will pay attention and be observed on behavior since it is a part of the final grade.

15 Minutes: The teacher will then proceed to ask interactive questions to see what the students learned
during their observation of the lesson taught by the teacher.

20 minutes: Students will be instructed by the teacher to open the document attached to their teachers
webpage and complete the interactive activity on Microsoft Word. The teacher will also introduce the
attached website that the students will use as a point of reference while completing the activity. The
teacher will walk around and assist with any questions or if help is needed. This is to solidify what the
student has learned throughout the 50 minute lesson and also is a fun and interactive way of learning
new material.

Closure: The teacher will wrap up with a closing activity and go around the room to ask what each
student put as a characteristic under a specific season. This will prove to be a team building exercise so
they can learn from one another. The teacher will then proceed to give instructions for the homework,
which is to make a short 5 slide Power Point presentation about the individual seasons and what they
have learned about each. This will be graded on creativity as well.
