ROUNDING OFF DECIMALS


To round off a decimal to the nearest whole number,
we write down the whole number that it's closest to.

Examples
Round off to the nearest whole number:
(i) 4.3 4
(ii) 5.8 6
(iii) 6.2 6
(iv) 4.5 5
To round off a number to a certain decimal place, look at the next digit:
If it's 5 or more, we round up
If it's less than 5, we round down
Examples
Round off to 2 dec. places:
(i) 4.5329 4.53
(ii) 12.837 12.84
(iii) 0.397 0.40

Round off as directed:


(i) 12.8642 12.9 (1 dec. pl.)
(ii) 1 274.09 1 274 ( nearest whole number)
(iii) 4.60951 4.610 (3 dec. pl.)
(iv) 254.93 254.9 ( nearest tenth)
(v) 0.04586 0.046 (nearest thousandth)
