Portfolio & Reflection:

Throughout the course,

I maintained a portfolio with
proof of my process as I
worked toward meeting my
goal.
My reflection explains the
contents of my portfolio and
how it demonstrates my
efforts to meet my goal.

I evaluated my own portfolio

based on my plan, process,
and product

Total Points _____ out of 12

10 points = A- (91%)
9 points = B+ (89%)
8 points = B (85%)
7 points = B- (81%)
6 points = D (65%)

only updates included) but
little or no progress
documented.
A reflection is attempted.
Some effort toward an

A portfolio is submitted, but
there is lack of evidence of
working toward the goal
throughout the course or
evidence of not working

the course.
A reflection is submitted, but
there is a lack of detail in the
explanation the contents of
the portfolio and in how it
demonstrates efforts to meet
the goal.
What was learned is not

Reflection:
I focused on the quality and content of my teaching strategies and methods that I have selected over the course of the
semester because selecting meaningful and valuable strategies or methods is the most important aspect. Through the steps
of teaching basic fact practice, teaching strategies and methods must encourage students to self-monitor, or check
themselves, which is something that I am working very hard to address in many if not all of my teaching strategies and
methods. Another important aspect of effectively teaching basic facts is the focus on self-improvement, students should be
focused on their improvement and not everyone around them, therefore it is important to organize your strategies and
methods around this concept. It is also important in to include families, make exercises enjoyable, and emphasize the
importance of what the child is learning, these are all key in planning what strategies and methods will work best in your
classroom. The qualities I have chosen to measure are key in building a successful and positive classroom but these
qualities may vary from year to year as each child is different and will adapt to different strategies and methods in different
ways. Based on my rubric, I have realized that my portfolio is a work in progress, it is something that will be updated and
changed monthly even when I have a classroom of my own. In order to move my portfolio to a higher level this semester, I
will try and include narratives and a wide variety of teaching strategies and methods in order to cover all aspects of
teaching, not just mathematics.
