An antebellum life is a life filled to the brim with serenity and peace.

Antebellum, a word
meaning Before the war explains this quite well. To most, this makes perfect sense.
For war is not the answer to everything. This period in time was considerably
prosperous. The following paragraphs explain this well.

Cotton played a large role in the profits for Georgia only because of the climate and
temperature on a daily basis. However, the state wasn't always so wealthy. In 1790,
Georgia was regarded as one of the poorest states. Soon, in the 1850s it was doing so
well, that it was labeled The Empire State of the South. They didn't succeed without
any help. In 1793, the cotton gin was invented. Its unique structure and design bolstered
the amount of cotton being produced. In fact, Georgia produced so much cotton, that it
was named king cotton. All because of Eli Whitney's struck of genius. There are two
kinds of cotton being produced. Sea island cotton contained long strands for a softer
material. It grew along the coast of islands at sea hence the name. Sadly, this was a
minority and wasn't too prevalent to find. The next kind of cotton (and certainly the
most common) is a hardy plant. Disastrously, the seeds within the cotton were woven
meticulously and it became a tedious process for the slaves.

Yeoman farmers were commoners who cultivated their own land. Typically, they were run
with family labor. These farmers consisted of a jaw dropping percentage of the male
population. ( a lot). They were representations of the ideal American citizen, honest,
hardworking, independent, and virtuous. Yeoman farmers were looked upon as the best

political influence considering that they owned their property, and they didn't exploit a
large number of other workers.

Slavery played a huge role in the success of the south. The slave population consisted of
blacks or whites either being held captive or residing within the plantation's perimeters.
Whites who worked as slaves were labeled as indentured servants and had a signed
contract stating that 7 years (more or less) of work will grant their freedom. Black
slaves however had to farm till the day they expire. Well, unless they escape....... some
plantation owners were kind and had not brutally whipped and beaten the Africans. The
majority of black Georgians were not given freedom although a small percentage had.

Social reforms in the antebellum era was probably the beginning of the end. While young
men and women move from the farms to factories, the children were transitioning from
a fun day petting cows and what not, to having to sell pencils on the streets only to earn
money to survive. This was very unhealthy for family relationships and created divided
kin. This led to 16 hour jobs and a widespread amount of poverty.

Following the social reform is the lack of education. Most feared the future population
would soon become illiterate. Since the community were working every single hour of
every single day, there was a decline of cleanliness that had occurred consisting of
terrible living conditions and spaces. The majority of the people lacked an education, so
they could not achieve a decent job.

Most during the antebellum period were very religious and relied on god to relieve their
pain. These beliefs had spread rapidly throughout the society. Not only did religious
beliefs lead the factory workers to positive paths, but also slaves. One of the only
things keeping the slaves going was their religion

By the time social reforms had occurred, there were many poor whites. These poor
whites also had to work just as hard as the slaves did and surely more. They had stayed
in slums, a small room which had to fit up to ten people. As you may have guessed, this
would spread disease, dirt, and sorrow.

Planters of the antebellum era were basically slaves. They had grown crops like indigo,
rice, corn, beans, etc. these people were the kickstart of the success of the south. They
had exported goods to industrial nations. They planted day and night but typically relied
on slaves.

The antebellum era was one like none other. The people of this time were very active
religiously and were mainly good, hardworking citizens. This knowledge will hopefully be
applied for future situations.
