Lesson Objective(s)
Students will be able to write 3
or more sentences after reading
the book The Plump and Perky
Turkey.

Assessment(s) of the
Objective(s)
Pre: Students will give examples
of what their family does for
Thanksgiving and what do they
eat?
During: We will read the book
The Plump and Perky Turkey
and discuss what happen in the
book (what went wrong, and
what went right?)
Post: Students will write in 3 or
more sentences, on how they
catch the turkey and draw
pictures to go along with it.

Use of Formative Assessment

The pre assessment will be used
to introduce the students to a
Thanksgiving story and relate it
to their life.
The during assessment will be
used to see if students were
listening to the story and are
able to point out key ideas.
The post assessment will give
the students a chance to
express their creative and write
sentences correctly.

Later we will turn the pictures

into a place mats for the
Thanksgiving table.
Accommodations: The story will be read aloud for the ESOL student. The pictures from the book will be
on the Smart Board this way all of the students will be able to see the pictures. I will give an example of
what the placemats should look like. This gives them something to go by and they will be able to see
how to spell some of the words they will need to use.
Materials:

Markers
Crayons
Glue
Construction Paper
Pencils
Smart Board

Procedures:
1. Call the students to the carpet and ask a couple of questions:
a. What do you and your family eat for Thanksgiving?
b. Do you think you can catch a turkey?
2. Read a shorten version of the book The Plump and Perky Turkey
3. While reading the book show the pictures to go along with story
4. Discuss how they tried to catch Pete the turkey for their dinner by asking a couple of questions:
a. How did they try to catch Pete?
b. What could they have done better?
c. How did Pete get away?
d. Do you think that turkeys are really clever?
5. Ask students to go to their seat and write how they would catch a turkey in 3 or more sentences
6. Check the sentences before handing them the materials to create their place mats.
Activity Analysis:
1. Reading the story and placing the pictures on the Smart Board is great for the student to have
an idea on how to catch a turkey. The students will have a clear view of the pictures. This will
help with the students constantly telling me that they cannot see. They will be attracted to
pictures more because they will appear in a form of a movie. There will be a need for technology
for this activity. The Smart Board will be used because it is big and easy for all the students to
see.
2. Creating placemats is the activity they will support the students creativity. The activity will be
used to see if the students actually paid attention to the book. It helps the students perfect their
sentence writing skills. By me checking the sentences, I have the chance of telling them if the
sentences are written correctly or if something is wrong. There will be little technology used. I
will post my example on the Smart Board. This way the students have an example to go by, and
some of the words that are on the board will be words they may need help spelling.
