OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
Main Objectives:
The man who was fuelling the ambitions of his five other colleagues at that
canteen was a 30-year-old engineer from Tamil Nadu, Shiv Nadar. And this
is how the story of Hindustan Computers Limited, HCL [Get Quote]
began.
Nadar and his five colleagues quit DCM in the summer of 1976.
They decided to set up a company that would make personal computers.
They had gathered enough technical expertise at DCM's calculator
division, but like for all start-ups, getting funds was the problem.
Nadar would first have to gather cash to give wings to his idea of
manufacturing computers. the founders put together Rs 20 lakh (Rs 2
million) and HCL was born.
.
SHIV NADAR
Founder - HCL
•
•
At a time when India had a total of 250 computers, Shiv Nadar led a young
team which passionately believed in and bet on the growth of the IT
industry. That vision in 1976, born out of a Delhi "barsaati" (akin to a
garage start up), has resulted 3 decades later in creating a $5 billion global
Enterprise. From designing India's first PC at the same time as global IT
peers in 1978 ;
• HCL has stayed a true Pioneer. of Modern Computing. HCL now
employs over 59,000 professionals, with a global presence in 20
countries and a pan India presence across over 500 locations. HCL's
business spans IT Hardware manufacturing & distribution, System
Integration, Technology & Software services, Business Process
Outsourcing, and Infrastructure Management.
•
• AWARDS
In January 2005 Shiv Nadar received the CNBC Business Excellence
award from the Prime Minister of India. In February 2005 he was listed by
"India Today" in the Power List of India's leaders from all walks of life, for
building a global IT Enterprise from scratch in 3 decades, creating valuable
JVs with marquee partners such as Deutsche Bank, and creating jobs in
Belfast when India was being criticized for just the opposite.
.
More recently, Shiv Nadar received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the
Year Award 2007 in the ‘Services' category for being "a doyen of the
Indian IT industry and perhaps its chief architect". The University of
Madras awarded him an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Science .
Ajai has recently been conferred the DATAQUEST ‘IT Man of the Year
2007’ Award.

FINDINGS
• The findings of the project is that the products of the HCL Infosystem Ltd.
is very good. The purification technology adapted by this company is
very good.
• The IT manager or the person heading the IT Department did not have the
rights to give the authorized official information to people other then
the members of the official itself and the high officials.
LIMITATIONS
`Every project has some limitations even the researcher came across
some limitations while working on the project which made the analysis a little
inappropriate at times. Some of the basic limitations faced during the research
are listed below:
• Only limited number of authorized, companies and other areas where it has
been found 55 players was covered in the study.
• Most of the research was based on cold calls, so then visited many places
i.e. authorized and local areas and where it had not responded much.
• Companies that were contacted through telephone at times did not give
correct information to the researcher.
SUGGESION AND
RECOMMENDATIONS
• HCL is having large number of channel partners but it is not
supporting & taking care all of them equally which results in
increasing discontentment among new channel partners because
it’s not possible for company to support all of them equally.
Company should take some positive action against it.
•
• Company executive should visit dealers on regular basis.
•
• They should pay proper attention towards checking of various components
of PC before end user delivery. Otherwise it tends towards defame of
brand name in comparison to rivals.
.
• Company should make policy for fixed end user price for all dealers
so that fair game will be played & dealer would not to
compromise on their margin.
CONCLUSION
After completion of my summer training project I have gained
several experiences in the field or sales marketing. I have got the
opportunity to meet various people, which fluctuate in different situation
and time. This summer training project has given me the opportunity to
have first experience in the corporate world.
