MacKenzie A (Alan) From: joecullinane@north-ayrshire.gov.uk Sont: ‘14 October 2013 13:35 To: Bus Bill Subject: Consultation am emailing on behalf of the North Ayrshire Council Labour Group as the Groups Secretary, The Labour Group fully supports the principles of the bill which we believe will help us improve local bus services and protect our communities from further cuts. We believe the deregulation of buses and failed and we need change to better serve our constituents. - In particular we believe the proposal to bundle routes is a vast improvement on the current system whilst we agree that the traffic commissioner should be empowered with greater powers to penalise bus operators who don't comply. It will no financial impact on our Group but we recognise that in order to work effectively investment will be required from all parties - Scottish Government, the council, SPT and bus operators. We believe this investment is essential. We have previously campaigned against bus cuts and gathered thousands of signatures against these cuts and support for reregulation. In May we moved a motion to get North Ayrshire Council to support the Bill The SNP Cabinet oppose this, The matter went before the councils Scrutiny ' Committee who unanimously recommended support. The issue will now go before all councillors at next months council meeting. We as a group hope that the council will endorse the Bill and although it will be after the deadline we hope that a supportive submission will be made. We would ask that this submission be considered. Best Wishes. Cllr Joe Cullinane North Ayrshire Labour Group Secretary Councillor Joe Cullinane * Please help reduce waste.
