Bus Bill
For the attention of Mr. Iain Gray - New Transport Bill
with limited computer experience and knowledged have strugeled.
1am a75 year old widow and experienced great difficulty going from Cambuslang to beyond
Wishaw Cross to visit a friend ina care home. | made a regular trip to visit him every four
weeks. | could not get a bus to go beyond Hamilton Bus Station. I had to get off one no. 267 bus
and get on another no. 267 bus going from Hamilton to Wishaw. This bus was then altered to a no.
266 but the inspector | spoke to did not consider advising me of this. To get to my destination |
had to get off at Motherwell Civic Centre and get a private company bus to go beyond Wishaw
Cross. This meant that in Winter | had to take three buses to visit my friend and the same
inconvenience coming home. When | made official enquiries my MSP, Mir. James Kelly, was able to
glean from the bus company that no bus would go beyond Hamilton Bus Station from Glasgow “as
it was impossible for drivers to keep to their timetable.” The first journey | made after this new
arrangement I counted seven no. 267 buses coming from Glasgow in a fifteen minute
period before a bus going from Hamilton to the Motherwell/Wishaw direction appeared. if the
Journey from Glasgow to Shotts was too long for personn surely it is not rocket science to arrange
for a change of driver at Hamilton Bus Station to give the public the service they require. It
occurred to me the service was not being operated for the benefit of passengers but at the whims
of the bus company. This was my experience on one service but my fellow passengers were of a
similar mind in their complaints. How were students incommoded trying to travel to Motherwell
College from South Lanarkshire?
| have friends in Cambuslang who live in periphery of Cambuslang and Rutherglen and they seem to
have a constant battle to retain a bus serving their requirements. A bus service is essential for
shops, post offices, etc. The bus company seem to look for profitability and not satisfaction of
passengers.
Surely this matter should be regulated in their favour.
| regret | am not educated enough to put my points over in a better manner but | thought ! should
let you know who bus services affect me.
