The reason appears in part to be the lack of any competition to drive up standards and can be exemplified by may main local provider - First Bus. There is no doubt that over the years, since they took over, standards have fallen with worst maintained buses and fewer and fewer on-bus inspectors to ensure passenger safety. | think that Scotland’s local bus services should be re- regulated and the Transport Commissioner given greater powers to impose financial penalties on providers that fail to deliver an agreed level of service.
