As a supporter of the Better Buses campaign, | am writing to give my backing to
the Bus Regulation (Scotland) Bill.
| feel that bus de-regulation has failed bus users who are paying ever rising fares
in return for an ever diminishing service. The reason appears in part to be the
lack of any competition to drive up standards and can be exemplified by may
main local provider - First Bus. There is no doubt that over the years, since they
took over, standards have fallen with worst maintained buses and fewer and
fewer on-bus inspectors to ensure passenger safety.
| think that Scotland’s local bus services should be re-
regulated and the Transport Commissioner given greater
powers to impose financial penalties on providers that fail to
deliver an agreed level of service.
