Research question: What are the responsibilities of a nurse?

Refined Thesis Statement: There will be a need for more nurses in the future.
Ulrich, Beth. "The Responsibility And Accountability Of Being A Registered Nurse."
Nephrology Nursing Journal: Journal Of The American Nephrology Nurses' Association 41.3
(2014): 241. MEDLINE. Web. 12 Nov. 2014.
Knowing the Responsibilities of a RN one is key and very important. They are expected
to know and understand the nurse-patient relationship. Also they must know the legal
accountability of being a RN. They must know their scope of practice as well as scopes of
practices of other healthcare providers thoroughly. A RN could be doing anything from
evaluating patient symptoms to helping doctors perform surgeries. There are all sorts of
liabilities when it comes to performing surgeries on the nurses and doctors. This article is
relevant to my research because it lists the responsibilities of a RN and what is needed to be
known.

World Health Organization 79.12 (2001): 1171. Health Source - Consumer Edition. Web. 12

In the future there will be a need of more nurses. A more specific number is predicted at
by 2020 the US will need 2.8 million nurses. Not only in the US is there a shortage with nurses
77% of other developed nations are also experiencing shortages in nurses. In other countries such
the Philippines have lower wages for the nursing occupation which give them little or no
motivation to work as a nurse. Some choose to leave the occupation altogether and others choose
to leave and work in European countries as a nurse for higher wages. The fact is that nurses will
be needed in the US and other countries as well.
"The Nurse and Patient Safety." H&HN: Hospitals & Health Networks 82.11 (2008): 4346. Health Source - Consumer Edition. Web. 12 Nov. 2014.
Another important necessity for nurses is the safety of themselves and the patients.
Patients have to have safe and reliable care which consists of rapid response teams. They have to
have this in order to prevent system failures. Nurses as well as doctors have good team work to
make the patients visits or emergencys run smoothly and avoid accidents or failures. Its also the
nurses job and responability to educate as well as treating the patient if needed. This article was
relevant and helped my research because it shows how the nurses responsibilities effect the
patient.
