Beginning Band Lesson Plan

Class: Beginning Clarinet Class


Primary Goal: Continue to develop correct embouchure and left hand position while developing
the correlation between fingers pushed and notes played.
Secondary Goal: Play notes G, F, E, D, C walking down and up without stop.

Warm-ups:
Time Needed: 7 min
1. Exercise #1: Woodwinds Unite
a. Objectives:
i. Student will assess the correct sound, embouchure, and fingerings used
b. Assessment (informal)
i. Students will play individually and Instructor will give brief feedback on
what needs to improve.
2. Exercise #2: Up n Down n Up
a. Objectives:
i. Students will begin moving fingers and will assess individually for correct
fingerings, embouchure, and sound produced.
b. Assessment (informal)
i. Teacher will ask students for the fingerings of each note and will assist
individuals who are having troubles.
Rehearsal:
Time Needed: 15 min
All Together Now
1. Objectives:
a. Students will be able to play the four notes (G, F, E, G) without errors
in fingerings.
2. Activities/strategies/review:
a. Before playing the piece, I will ask the students to finger the first note,
and say out loud the fingering for that note.
b. Once we have performed, I will give brief feedback on what we need
to improve.
c. If time allows, we will play this three times.
3. Items to Anticipate:

a. Students will play incorrect notes even after we have said the
fingerings for them, so patience will be key but I have to keep a good
pace.
4. Assessment (formal or informal):
a. Informal After we have performed one time, I will give students
feedback on what they need to work on individually, and will play
again until we have fixed most errors.
Mr. Whole Note Takes A Walk
1. Objectives:
a. Students will be able to play the four notes (E, D, C, E) without errors
in fingerings.
2. Activities/strategies/review:
a. Before playing the piece, I will ask the students to finger the first note,
and say out loud the fingering for that note.
b. Once we have performed, I will give brief feedback on what we need
to improve.
c. If time allows, we will play this three times.

b. We will perform this at q=70.
c. Once we have performed, I will give brief feedback on what we need
to improve.
d. If time allows, we will play down two times, and up two times.
3. Items to Anticipate:
a. Students will play incorrect notes even after we have said the
fingerings for them, so patience will be key but I have to keep a good
pace.
4. Assessment (formal or informal):
a. Informal After we have performed one time, I will give students
feedback on what they need to work on individually, and will play
