Evan
Social Studies:
Strengths: Evan is an active and eager participant who always attempts whether
he is right or wrong. Evan has a positive attitude, which is seen and followed by his
classmates. In class, his actions show a student who is independent and carries
himself with a strong confidence.
Social Studies Program/Text:
Discovering our Past; Medieval and Early Modern Times
Glencoe California Series
Evan also uses the additional CD that accompanies the Textbook
Weaknesses/Concerns: When reading, Evan is a very slow reader. While reading
aloud in class, he has poor decoding skills and has trouble correctly reading the
passages.
Accommodations/Modifications in place or needed for reading: Evan has his
mother read to him from the textbook, or listens to the CD read the given
Homework pages. His modification for history is that he is not required to turn in
written notes. His mother and him have a discussion about the passage afterwards.
For tests, Evan is accommodated by having our resource teacher, Mrs. Ashdown
read the test aloud to him. She also writes his answers to the test on his answer
document for him.
Oral/Verbal Communication Strengths: Orally, Evan is very strong when he is
prepared. He gave an impressive and entertaining oral report castles. His
confidence and vocab were very strong and precise.
Oral/Verbal Communication weaknesses/concerns: When I ask Evan to read a
passage he has not rehearsed, a blind read, he has difficulty reading and sounding
out basic words. It also takes him a lot of time to process from what is said to
transfer that information to his paper. Writing information down is difficult and
very time consuming for him. Usually, it is illegible even for him to read later.
Auditory Comprehension Strengths: He is a very strong auditory learner. He
participates and comprehends everything that is said in class. He is very
comfortable with this style and does very well in my class because I do a lot of direct
instruction.
Auditory Comprehension weaknesses/concerns: Evan struggles with silent reading.
He has trouble even quietly reading to himself. It takes an immense amount of time
and effort to first read the passage and then to comprehend the information.

Relationship with peers: The students think highly of Evan. They would view him
as someone who does very well in history. He is confident with the information
because he works so hard. He has many friends and is very well liked.
Relationship with staff/adults: From what I have heard from other teachers and
seen from afar with other adults, he is very mature and respectful towards all adults.
He listens and responds very well.
How student handles frustration: I have never seen Evan in a manner of frustration.
Typical classroom behavior: Evan is always focused in class. He is alert and on task.
He is very respectful and always tries to get other students to follow suit.
Behavior Plans, techniques, and/or strategies currently in place: N/A None have
been needed.
