Instructor Guidelines:
1. Pass out the Student Worksheet
2. Divide the class into six groups. Two will be designated Equipo Desayuno, two will be Equipo Almuerzo
and two will be Equipo Cena. (If the class isnt large enough to make 6 groups of at least 3 students, then
divide students into three groups)
3. Paso Uno: Independently, ask students to take 30 seconds to list as many food or drink items related to
their team name. (For example, Equipo Desayuno might say el cereal, las salchichas, el tocino, etc.)
Encourage students to look up words they dont know, or to ask the instructor.
4. Paso Dos: Have students ask each other about any allergies or dietary restrictions their group members
have. Encourage students to look up unfamiliar words in the dictionary, or to ask the instructor. After
students have asked every group member about allergies or dietary restrictions, ask groups to send one
representitave to the instructor to report these allergies/dietary restrictions to the instructor. The
instructor should write a list of any reported allergies/dietary restrictions on the board so that all students
will have this information.
5. Paso Tres: Ask students to begin brainstorming what types of food they might want to include on their
menu. They may use the foods in Paso 1 to help them. If they decide to bring a food item that no one in
the class is allergic to or restricted from, but the food or drink contains an ingredient that is a common
allergy, they should make note of this using contiene. Students are encouraged to consult their
dictionary or ask their instructor for words they dont know how to say.
6. Paso Cuatro: Now the students will share what they propose to bring to the party. Other students are
encouraged to take notes on what the presenting group plans to bring, so that they remember which
foods which group will bring, in order to accurately vote for the best group.
7. Paso Cinco: Vote as a class for the best group!
Student handout included below.

Equipo: Desayuno / Almuerzo / Cena

Your class is planning a party for the international students on campus. You want to include foods and drinks that are
typical for Americans for each meal: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Notice how the class has been broken down into two
breakfast teams, two lunch teams, and two dinner teams. You will be competing with the other team with the same meal
assignment to design the best menu! We will vote as a class!
Paso 1
Make a list in of some food items and drinks that one would typically eat for your assigned meal. If you dont know how

include on your menu. Refer back to Paso Uno for some help. Remember to do this in Spanish! Make note of whether
or not your dish requires a plate or a bowl, a fork or a spoon, etc. Dont forget the beverages! Each group member should
bring at least two food or drink items! Your group is also responsible for bringing plates, napkins, flatware, etc.
