1. STATEMENT OF THE PUPILS PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

AND SKILLS
Being, a 1st year group, and this the first class of this topic the students will have no
previous knowledge of the topic of Hand-Tools. Pupils may have some outside knowledge of
basic Hand-Tools from other experiences. From conversing with my co-operating teacher he has
informed me that they have a good knowledge of Trees and Growth of Trees, Wood Jointing
Techniques and have been given an explanation of the basic Health & Safety rules that apply
within the M.T.W room.

2. RATIONALE FOR THE SELECTION & STRUCTURING OF

SUBJECT MATTER AND FOR THE METHODOLOGY
This lesson plans to introduce a new topic to the class. This topic is a very important
topic in the syllabus which informs the pupils about the different Hand-Tools available to them
in the M.T.W room. There will be an emphasis on the neat and accurate production of sketches
describing the tools and an emphasis also on the safe use of such tools.

3. AIMS
The aims of this lesson are to:

Introduce myself to the group.

Inform them of the new topic to be covered.

Advance their sketching and graphical communication skills.

Discuss the dangers of using the Hand-Tools incorrectly and the relevance of safety
whilst using them.

4. LEARNING OUTCOMES & CORRESPONDING ASSESSMENTS

Learning Outcomes (LOs)
At the end of this lesson the students will be enabled to:

5. PLANNING FOR LITERACY & NUMERACY

Literacy
This is an initial lesson and as a result of this there will be a lot of new vocabulary,
technical and otherwise. Designating an area for the spelling of new difficult words. The very
nature of the class ensures that words and spellings will be on the board anyway.
Numeracy
I will be demonstrating the correct use of the ruler in this class and how to read the scale
properly, emphasizing that it will be used greatly in the upcoming project. This theory class
will not be a class hugely affected by numeracy issues. Any issues that do arise I plan to
resolve the issue using peer assisted learning where the students who understand the problem
explain it to the others who dont.

6. PLANNING FOR DIFFERENTIATION

I have planned on using varying resources to explain the tools that I will be showing them.
Physical real models will help the visual learners and the PowerPoint slides will help the readwrite learners, speaking about the tool will aid the auditory learners and the game at the end
will help the kinesthetic learners.
