My Philosophy of Early Childhood Education

Taylor Strubbe
Beliefs on the purposes of education for children
The purpose of early childhood education is to promote school readiness and improve learning outcomes of
young children by providing high quality professional development programs to improve the knowledge and skills of
early childhood education and caregivers. The most important thing children gain from their early childhood
education experiences is a sense of self and learning to associate with the people around them.
Beliefs on how children learn best and the curriculum used
I believe children learn best by having hands on experiences. To ensure a successful early childhood
education experience, children should have a positive learning environment. Developmentally appropriate practices
should be incorporated into the programs by having children be able to make choices and having small group
activities based on interest. A daily routine is very important and must be implemented in a classroom.
Beliefs on physical environment qualities
The physical environment of the classroom should be developmentally appropriate and safe. Child-sized
furnishings and developmentally appropriate equipment are important for a childs learning and should be in all
classrooms. Some of the learning center areas I would include would be dramatic play areas, reading/quiet area,
building center and art & crafts area. Outdoor areas and playgrounds should be safe, natural, and stimulating for all
the children.
Beliefs on caregiver/teacher qualities and education
The teachers role in early childhood education is to guide children and foster their abilities. It is
important for teachers to have appropriate education and training in Early Childhood Education, first aid & CPR,
mandatory reporting and blood borne pathogens. The most important quality that a caregiver/teacher can have is
patience. The most important thing caregivers/teachers need to know about children is that not every child is the
same it is our job to adapt to them.
Beliefs on family involvement
Family involvement in early childhood education is very important in the learning of children. The familys
role in early childhood education is to actively participate in their childrens education. Families are important
because they are the childs number one teachers.
Beliefs on importance of profession
The early childhood education profession is important because it is the foundation of learning and prepares
children for the world today. Quality early childhood education means that a safe, nurturing environment where
children can learn and express themselves should be provided.
Summary
In summary, I believe early childhood education is very important and each child deserves to have a quality,
family supported positive learning experience taught by Early Childhood Professionals. The following quotation
summarizes my beliefs. Childhood is not a race to see how quickly a child can read, write and count. Childhood is a
small window of time to learn and develop at the pace which is right for each individual child. -unknown
