National Institute on Drug Abuse (2006). Letter From the Director. In Anabolic Steroid Abuse.
Retrieved from http://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/research-reports/anabolic-steroidabuse/letter-director
This source explains the types of steroids that athletes have access to. Ranging from
Anabolic Steroids to Illicit Steroids, pro athletes and even high school athletes can get
somewhat of an unfair advantage over other athletes. This source also starts covering the
second research question about some of the side effects that may occur is these
substances are used. The source does a great job of listing the types of steroids there are
and how they are used.
Mayo Clinic Staff (2012). Performance-enhancing drugs: Know the risks. Retrieved from
http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-living/fitness/in-depth/performance-enhancing-drugs/art20046134
The article does more than just describe some of the most common side effects caused by
steroids. This source goes in detail on what certain types of performance enhancers can
do to the human body. Some side effects that can occur are acne, enlargement of the
breasts in men, and deepening of the voice in women. This is a great resource because it
doesnt only concern one type of steroid but multiple forms. This source also starts to
cover the third question on why these substances are illegal.
Jacob Beck (2013). The Only Good Reason to Ban Steroids in Baseball: To Prevent an Arms
Race. Retrieved from http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2013/06/the-only-goodreason-to-ban-steroids-in-baseball-to-prevent-an-arms-race/276932/

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY

Although most people would think that steroids are illegal because they are unfair, but
the main reason is because of the dangerous side effects. The source covers other reasons
as far as because if an athlete uses performance enhancing drugs they shouldnt be
idolized and because they are unsafe. These PEDs have many reasons to be banned in
sports and this article does a great job of listing several reasons.
