Our First Reading from Samuel, who anointed David as

King of Israel, speaks of Davids desire to make a beautiful place to keep the Ark of the Covenant. He was not
able to build the Temple, but his son Solomon did. God
blessed David and established his Kingdom forever, because of his faithfulness.
Saint Paul writing to the Romans explains how the mystery of the Incarnation, that was hidden for ages, has
now been revealed through Jesus Christ, our Messiah.
We await His arrival with eager expectation.
In the Gospel, the Angel Gabriel brings the Good News
to Mary, the Handmaid of the Lord, chosen by God to
bring forth Jesus into the world. She accepts her responsibility. She accepts it, without really understanding.
However, her FAITH in God, prompted her to say, Let
it be done to me according to your word.
Christmas is a time, when we once again accept Gods
Word made Flesh. We do not build temples, but our own
Hearts to receive Him and obey His commandments. We
are assured of Hope, Love , Joy and PEACE. Fr Sebastian

& PEACE

Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord

On this day the Church focuses especially on the newborn Child, God become human, who embodies for
us all the hope and peace we seek. We need no other special saint today to lead us to Christ in the manger, although his mother Mary and Joseph, caring for his foster-Son, help round out the scene. But if we
were to select a patron for today, perhaps it might be appropriate for us to imagine an anonymous shepherd, summoned to the birthplace by a wondrous and even disturbing vision in the night, a summons
from an angelic choir, promising peace and goodwill. A shepherd willing to seek out something that
might just be too unbelievable to chase after, and yet compelling enough to leave behind the flocks in
the field and search for a mystery.
On the day of the Lords birth, lets let an unnamed, un-celebrity at the edge of the crowd model for
us the way to discover Christ in our own heartssomewhere between skepticism and wonder, between
mystery and faith. And, like Mary and the shepherds, let us treasure that discovery in our hearts.

Musical Review
The Musical Review was held on December 5th and performed by students in Kindergarten up to the 3rd Grades
Classes. Their performance and songs included: Kindergarten ClassesHes Got the Whole World in His Hands
and Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Star; 1st Grade ClassesA Jingle in My Heart and Lets All Go to Bethlehem; 2nd
Grade ClassesMele Kalikimaka and Tis the Season; 3rd Grade ClassesHoliday Road Trip and A World of
Christmas. Acknowledgements and mahalo to all HFCA faculty, staff, parents and students, and the many helpers
behind the scene.
Winter Concert
HFCA held their Winter Concert on December 11th with the following groups performing: Glee Club, Beginning
Hawaiian Music, Beginning Band , Advanced Hawaiian Music, Advanced Band and the Marching Band. Below are
several pictures. We acknowledge and thank everyone involved: Christina Malins, staff and parents, Mrs. Jennifer

Advent Wreath Ritual

The Advent wreath is a powerful
way to focus our prayer during the
Advent season. It consists of a
wreath of greens laying flat with
four candle usually three purple
and one pink, the latter lit beginning on the Third Sunday
of Advent. The never-ending circle of greens reminds us
of Gods unending love, the source of our hope.
Fourth Week: The fourth candle reminds us of the star
that guided the Magi to the stable where Jesus lay.

The ideal is for there to be an

RCIA process available in
every Roman Catholic parish. Those who want to join an
RCIA group should aim to attend one in the parish where
they live.
For those who join an RCIA process it is a period of
reflection, prayer, instruction, discernment, and formation. There is no set timetable and those who join
the process are encouraged to go at their own pace
and take as much time as they need. However, on
average the process takes between eight to twelve
months, but it can take up to two years or more.
Those who enter the process are expected to begin
attending Holy Mass on a Sunday, attend a weekly
RCIA session, and to become increasingly involved
in the activities of their local parish.

What does Christ say to the young man
who asks: What must I do?
(CCC 2052-2053)
To the young man who asks What must
I do? Christ says:
1. to look at God as the source of all good
2. to keep the commandments
3. to live in poverty and chastity.
CCC 2052 Teacher, what good deed must I
do, to have eternal life? To the young man
who asked this question, Jesus answers first
by invoking the necessity to recognize God
as the One there is who is good, as the supreme Good and the source of all good.
Then Jesus tells him: If you would enter life,
keep the commandments. And he cites for
his questioner the precepts that concern
love of neighbor: You shall not kill, You
shall not commit adultery, You shall not
steal, You shall not bear false witness,
Honor your father and mother. Finally Jesus
sums up these commandments positively:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.1
CCC 2053 To this first reply Jesus adds a
second: If you would be perfect, go, sell
what you possess and give to the poor, and
you will have treasure in heaven; and come,
follow me.2 This reply does not do away
with the first: following Jesus Christ involves
keeping the Commandments. The Law has
not been abolished,3 but rather man is invited to rediscover it in the person of his
Master who is its perfect fulfillment. In the
three synoptic Gospels, Jesus call to the
rich young man to follow him, in the obedience of a disciple and in the observance of
the Commandments, is joined to the call to
poverty and chastity.4 The evangelical counsels are inseparable from the Commandments.
