Sample Program Plan

As discussed in the article by Huang and Dietel we were able to see how the five
components that they presented help make a strong and successful after school
program. The five components are as follows:
A. Goals: They are important because they allow for everyone to be in the same
page. By doing this everyone knows what the common goals are and create
their activities towards helping reach that main goal. There is enough
funding to meet these goals.
B. Leadership: The people in charge of making sure that everything is running
smoothly in the program and that everyone knows what their part in the
team consists of is well qualify by having a variety of years of training. This
person has been a part of this community for a large amount of time and
because of this he/she is much more aware of the benefits and limitations
within the community.
C. Staff: The people under this category are also well qualify and are the ones
that have much more direct contact with both students and parents. They
demonstrate to have strong working skills by being able to work well with
other colleagues. They also push high expectations by motivating and
engaging with the students.
D. Program: The program itself allows for the school routine and the after
school routine are align and in this way it allows for students to not only stay
focus but also it decreases the amount of stress built up by not being able to
adapt so quickly to any sort of change within the students. The program not
only includes academic activities like doing homework, studying ect. The
program also incorporates learning through fun activities that allow for
students imagination to run wild while at the same time maintain the
learning aspect of it.
E. Evaluation: Uses both informal and formal evaluation in order to find ways in
which the program did/was doing well and in this way find ways in which
the program can further improve in the future.
Examples of what it would look like in my ideal program:
I.
In my ideal program all of my staff would be fully aware of the way in which
we will all as teamwork towards a common purpose. For example in my ideal
program children would be proficient in their reading levels based on their
grade level. Students would also be expanding their horizons by having
multiple community service events that would allow for both parents and
staff to work together and in this way get to know each other a little bit more.
By having an open communication with the parents it would allow for them
to be more willing to participate in any community activities my program
might want.
II.
In my ideal program all the staff would have strong leadership skills. They
would also be fully qualified to approach any given situation in the best way
possible. The leaders would have had build such a strong authority figure
that students would have a minimum amount of courage to disobey.

III.

IV.

V.

The staff would be extremely approachable. They would have a super strong
communication with the parents and the students. This would also go hand
in hand with the leadership roles mentioned above. By having an open
communication with the student and parents, the students would rather
work towards our common goal rather then try to go against it.
The program itself would be extremely structured. It would still be fun but it
would have a sense of structure so well organized that no matter what any
particular staff is doing with their class at any given time, they would still be
aware of the outside things going on in other classes.
Evaluation would be key to the building of a strong staff team. Starting from
the head director of the program to the students. This would be key because I
would like to see what is and what is not working in my program in order to
be able to further implement ways in which I can help my team out to
maintain our strength as a team strong.
