Artifact Title: Self-Evaluation

Date: September 2014

Artifact Description
During my student teaching experience in Ireland, I was asked to write weekly reflections along
with a reflection after each lesson plan I taught. I would always write about at least one thing that
went bad and one thing that went good. By doing all of these reflections, I was forced to think
about each lesson individually and about the things I could do to improve them for next time.
Doing these reflections also then lead to thinking about the week in general and about how I
could be more prepared on some tasks that I had neglected to perfect others. I learned a great
deal about myself as an educator while doing my personal reflections.

Artifact Reflection
I believe this experience best aligns with standard eight of the Wisconsin Teacher Development
and Licensure Standards which states: The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually
evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions on pupils, parents, and professionals in the
learning community and others and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.
This experience best aligns with standard nine because I had to think about my lessons and how I
was teaching. It lead me think about my students and whether they were learning anything from
me or not. I would think about ways I could have done better and tried my best to do that for the
next lesson I taught my students. I reflected upon this idea over my several weeks there and did a
lot of thinking about myself as a future educator. I learned how to fix mistakes and how to make
things better for not just myself but my students and the learning community.

UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment

I believe this experience best aligns with KSD4.a. (Reflects on Teaching) of the UWP School of
Education Knowledge, Skill and Disposition statements which states: The candidate makes an
accurate and thoughtful reflection of his/her teaching effectiveness, is aware of specific elements
of his/her teaching that contributed to successful instruction, and can offer alternative teacher
action to predict the future successes of alternate approaches. I am more competent in this area
because I have learned how to think about my actions and my teaching style. I have learned how
to adapt my lesson plans if they are not working so I can reach my students learning needs. I
have learned how to interact with other teachers and students better. Most of all, I learned about
who I will be as an educator and how I will accomplish my teaching goals.
My secondary alignment is KSD3.e. Demonstrates Flexibility and Responsiveness.

Artifact Reflection
What I learned about teaching/learning:

I learned how to better think about my lessons after I have taught them to evaluate what worked
and what didnt. I thought about things that I could improve for the next time. I also have learned
how to evaluate and reflect on my relationships with other teachers and students.
What I learned about myself as a prospective educator:
Ive learned that as an educator, I need to constantly reflect on what I am teaching and what I am
doing in my classroom. Self-reflection is a very important part of the learning process. I know
that this will help me to adjust how I present lessons and how will better me as an educator.
