The Fence Post Turtle

Rev. Dr. Charles L. Rogers Sr. 2015

Ephesians 6:10-12 (KJV)

10
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his
might.
11
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil.
12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of
this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We all have struggles in our daily lives that begin the day we are born. Often times we get so confused that we
wonder if we even belong here or what to do. It brings to mind the story of the Fence Post Turtle.
In the country, while driving along, you might see a turtle on top of a fence post. If you did, three things were
apparent; The Turtle didnt get up there by himself The Turtle didnt belong up there and The Turtle doesnt
know what to do while he is up there. Some would wonder who put him up there in the first place.
We might often feel like we do not belong here and do not have a clue as to what we are to do. Unfortunately,
many either give up or simply stop fighting the daily battles and chose to give in to the ways of the world a
corrupt world which is not our permanent home.
Being created in Gods image, we are spiritual creatures journeying on foreign soil a land that is a battlefield.
Here on Earth Satan roams freely seeking to lure us away from a loving Heavenly Father by whatever means
necessary.
However, as a child of God we have to be prepared to engage in this ongoing battle for our souls. In Scripture God
has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Before Christ was to be crucified He told us the He had to go away
but He would send a Comforter, that comforter being the Holy Spirit.
It is the Holy Spirit that abides with us every hour of every day. It is through the Holy Spirit that we find joy when
we are sad, knowledge when we have questions, and strength when we are weak.
In the above Scriptures, God gives us instruction in what we must do to stand against the wiles of the devil. He has
told us to put on the whole armor as written in the verses that followed the above.
Ephesians 6:14-18 (KJV)
14
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and
supplication for all saints;
One thing we do not have to wonder about, as a child of God, is who has placed us here. Our Heavenly Father has
placed us here to share the love of Christ and the Gospel with all we meet. We should be greeting each day with
joy as we talk with the Lord in the eager anticipation of what He will have us to do during the day. And should we
find ourselves on that fence post, use that time to pray, meditate, and study the Word of God.
