What We Intend
to Accomplish
Engage volunteers and corporations to make a positive impact in the community and
spark economic develop opportunities for the local residents
Aid in increasing homeownership opportunities by acquiring, rehabbing and making
available to first-time home buyers vacant and bordered up properties within the
targeted area.
Work in partnership with local nonprofits such as United Way Suncoast to assist in
developing a healthy neighborhood in Campbell Park.
Alethea Hodges, age 35, is married to George Burton and has two chidren,
Moses, age 6, and Aleeann, age 8. The family moved to the Campbell Park
neighborhood over a year ago. In the past year, they have endured difficult times.
Mrs. Hodges was a factory worker and was laid off. Her husband, George, also
a factory worker, lost his job and enlisted in a temporary job agency thereafter.
While sent to a construction job, George suffered an accident injuring his spine.
He was unable to continue working as a result, and he is currently waiting to
undergo a delicate spine surgery. Despite the trying times, Mrs. Hodges ensures
her children live a normal life. Aleeann and Moses are currently enrolled in school, and they
enjoy playing outside with other kids in the neighborhood. Mrs. Hodges has a positive outlook of
the future and hopes for her husbands speedy recovery after the surgery. They want nothing more
than to
offer their children a safer and more secure life. The repairs needed
in their home are substantial; however, they will provide a safer and
more comfortable living environment for the family. They need an A/C
unit, replacement of windows, front door replaced, and electrical and
plumbing work.
Elizabeth Chambliss, age 80, has been living in the Campbell Park area for over 45 years.
Mrs. Chambliss is a veterans widow. Her late husband, Albert Chambliss, served in the Army.
Mrs. Chambliss mothered eight children. Her son, Willie, her daughter, Brenda and her
daughter, Shirly, take good care of her due to her health issues, including congestive heart
failure. Following a tradition of military service, Mrs. Chambliss is a proud grandmother of
Byron Chambliss Jr., who is currently serving in the Army and Albertlondray, age 40, who is a
Marine veteran. Due to her fragile health, Mrs. Chambliss needs a
ramp and handrails on the front porch for easy access to her home,
plumbing work, as well as interior and exterior painting.
Geraldine Siplin, age moved to Campbell Park in 1962. She has been living in her home
for over 51 years. Mrs. Siplin worked as a nurse assistant for most of her professional life
before she retired. Geraldine mothered four children. She has seven grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren. Her granddaughter, Tornette, who takes care of her, wants to become a nurse. Shes looking
to go back to college to finish her nursing degree. Some of the work needed in Mrs. Siplins home includes
electrical work, bathroom remodel, and grab bars.
John Robinson has been living in his home in the Campbell Park
neighborhood for 13 years. John was drafted in the Army in 1965 and
served for two years. He was the Assistant High and Dry Manager for
St. Petersburg Harborage for 14 years before he retired. He formerly
worked for KAF Tech for 10 years. He is a father of two, his son, Todd,
age 44, who lives in Ocala where he owns a farm. His daughter,
Sabrina, age 34, lives in Tallahassee where she attends Florida State
University. She graduates in May with a masters degree in Foreign
Affairs. Mr. Robinson tries to visit his son and daughter as much as
he can. He needs work in the bathroom, as well as exterior painting and yard work.
Josephine Lee, age 64, has been living in her home for 38 years. Josephine and her mother
Sallie, live together. As a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA), Josephine worked in the healthcare field for two years.
She later worked as an assembly worker for Raytheon Co., a defense and aerospace systems company for over 30
years. Josephine has three siblings, Phyllis Jane, Baron and Tommie. Similarly, Sallie
used to work for Bayfront Medical Center and also did housekeeping before she retired.
As a single mother, she raised all of her kids by herself. She has five grandchildren. Two
of them are nurses and three are teachers. Sallie is currently in a wheelchair and needs
a more accessible shower. Moreover, a ramp and handrails in the front porch would
help Sallie get in her house with more ease. They also
need a new roof.
