An 11-year-old boy and his 13-year-old cousin were charged with third-degree ars on Friday related to a Dec. 31 fire in the greeting card aisle that caused milli ons of dollars worth of damages, the Columbia Police Department said. It was not a Hallmark moment. The store suffered extensive smoke damage, but the store's sprinkler system activated and kept the fire contained until firefighte rs could extinguish the blaze, Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey D. Jenkins said. Police released photos of the suspects taken from surveillance video and on Frid ay the parents of the children turned them in on felony charges, The State repor ted. The 11-year-old allegedly stole a lighter from Walmart and used it to set the fi re, WLTX reported. Walmart was forced to close for repairs.
