Philip went to the city of Samaria and told the people
about Christ. When the crowds heard Philip and saw
the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said and many people believed what Philip told them about Jesus.
Then God sent an angel to
give instructions to Phillip. The angel said, Go south along the desert road that leads from Jerusalem to Gaza. So Philip left.
An important Ethiopian official
happened to be going along that road in his chariot. He was the chief treasurer for Candace, the Queen of Ethiopia. The official had gone to Jerusalem to worship and was now on his way home. He was sitting in his chariot, reading the book of the prophet Isaiah.
Philip ran up close and asked him,
Do you understand what you are reading? The official answered, Not really. I need someone to explain it to me. He then invited Philip to come up and sit beside him. Philip explained the good news about Jesus. The Ethiopian official believed what Philip said and was baptized.
At Caesarea there was a man named
Cornelius, a centurion in the Italian Regiment. He and his family were devout and God-fearing. One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. An angel of God came to him and said, Cornelius, send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Peter. He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea. When the angel had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants. He told them everything that had happened and sent them to Joppa.
The next day Peter went up on the roof
of the house to pray and had a vision. He saw heaven open, and something came down like a huge sheet held up by its four corners. In it were all kinds of animals, snakes, and birds. A voice said to him, Peter, get up! Kill these and eat them. Peter said, Lord, I cant do that! Ive never eaten anything that is unclean and not fit to eat. The voice spoke to him again, When God says that something can be used for food, dont say it isnt fit to eat.
Peter was still wondering what all of this meant,
when the men sent by Cornelius came and stood at the gate. They had found their way to Simons house and were asking if Simon Peter was staying there. While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Holy Spirit said to him, Some men are here looking for you. Hurry down and go with them. Dont worry, I sent them.
The next morning, Peter left with the men who
had come from Cornelius and arrived in Caesarea where Cornelius was waiting for them. He had also invited his relatives and close friends. Peter said to them, You know that we Jews are not allowed to have anything to do with other people. But God has shown me that he doesnt think anyone is unclean or unfit. God is pleased with everyone who worships him and does right, no matter what nation they come from.
Cornelius, his family and
friends believed what Peter said and received Jesus. *** God will speak to anyone who has even only a little childlike faithand He wants to speak to you.
