Whats on your mind?
Learning Logs headlines/current events.
Wondering Tree Whats on your mind?
Student-led conferences. Students and parents share an issue/event from their learning log and formulate their
concerns/questions into a headline and place it on the tree.
Week 1: Feb 23rd Fed 25th: Setting the Stage (in homeroom classes).
In class things to do:
Revisit ideas that came from Whats on your mind?
Grouping these how can they be grouped?
What big ideas / interests / issues can we see?
What concepts can we see?
What is the difference between an interest and an issue?
Look for connections.
What can lead to action? What is action? What kind of action?
Cooperative Working Skills:
Trans Skills social skills (accepting responsibility, respecting others, cooperating, resolving conflict, group
decision making.)
Accepting responsibility:
We Can Make A Difference focusing around the central idea and what is involved in this process, have
discussion groups to highlight what responsibilities they will face.
What is a responsibility?
What are we responsible for?
Resolving conflict:
Warm up with ppt. respecting different opinions as tuning into
Share powerpoint (resolving conflict) and discuss as you go.
Record other things that make you angry when working in a group
Show Problem solving solutions document to model ring of solutions
Develop other strategies to calm down and resolve these issues.
Display in class to revisit when groups agree on behavior goals and expectations.

After the previous session give students a task. (rocket challenge, quick sand, team games etc.)
Reflect how effective they were as a group member, after having the group fill out the Co-operative Peer
Assessment Form. What skills and strategies did they use? What frustrated them? What solutions did they use?
Week 2 March 2nd: Inner Journey
(4 sessions in class group).
At the end of this week students will be ready to be put into new issue groups.
Through the arts time is given to develop something visually creative.
Individually produce artwork to reflect an issue.
Suggestion is to take most of the day to work on this (Monday)

Thursday / Friday:
Analysis of art to develop language and understandings of issues revisit what are issues?
How can we make a difference?
What action can be taken?
Students should be encouraged to broaden their ideas.
Students grouped according to these broad ideas / issues.
Student Journal pages: State the Issue or problem and Why is this a problem / issue? With Teacher comment as
assessment.

Week 3: 9th March (Davos): Linking & Forming (5 days over 2 weeks)
Final groups worked out by teachers, groups develop lines of inquiry, using the concept questions in the S.H.
