Career: Jackie Robinson became the first black player in the major leagues in
1947, signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers. 1955, he helped the Dodgers win
the World Series. He retired in 1957 with a career batting average of .311.
Life: He youngest of five children, Robinson was raised in relative poverty by a
single mother. excellent athlete and played four sports: football, basketball,
track, and baseball. He was named the region's Most Valuable Player in
baseball in 1938. Robinson's older brother, Matthew Robinson, inspired Jackie
to pursue his talent and love for athletics. Matthew won a silver medal in the
200-meter dashjust behind Jesse Owensat the 1936 Olympic Games in

Frederick Douglass

his experiences as a slave and then gaining his freedom. His writings and
speeches became powerful testimonies to support the abolition of slavery.

Struggles: Mom died at 10, brought up by his grandmother until the age of
seven, when he was sent to Baltimore to serve Hugh Auld, Douglas was
taught to read by the wife of his Master Sophia Auld. Douglas had fond
memories of Sophia and felt he was treated like a human being.

She went to Old south Meeting House which was a Church, The date and
place where she was born is not documented, in July 11, 1761 she was taken
on a slave ship called the Phillis and was owned by Timothy Fitch. She started
writhing because Women did not have the rights to read or wright, so they
would sneaked them in the pockets so when no guards are around they could
or memories them.
