Interventions/Students who struggle - Shawn: talk to Darron about 7th - 9th grade
teachers establishing classroom expectations, supply list, organization techniques so that
unification and consistency is established with all students 7th, 8th and 9th grade students.
This topic requires the entire agenda dedicated to discussion and planning for this purpose
so will discuss on March 12th.
9th Period
Study Labs w/ Intensive support and teaching of Study Skills Curriculum evaluate teachers, holding kids accountable, teach skills (note taking, organization,
test taking). Use teacher recommendation and eligibility lists for placement. Must
get right kids placed in study lab to get into their schedule. Communication to study
lab teachers on missing work.
Common Study Hall - Atkinson West Holt model - can it work here (update)
Visited w/ Principal from West Holt --highlights from the conversation:
Took a year to plan for the Learning Academy
Took PLC training in AZ---very helpful when teachers are meeting and having
conversations about kids, SMART goals, etc.
Have a weekly agenda when they meet in their PLCs
Elective teachers are teaching while Core teachers on meeting in their PLC
Have a common Study Hall (some electives) & Intensive Study Hall
Students are required to attend Intensive Study Hall if they are on the failing
list
Students develop SMART goals
Have a common Planning period for ALL core teachers
Common Plan Period-teachers meet once a week and discuss students who
are struggling, review the kids SMART goals, and discuss
strategies/intervention to help them succeed
Outcome--only a handful of students on the failing list
Overall, he felt very good about the program and felt that their NeSA Scores
and academic success has improved greatly
Things to consider:
Electives numbers have declined in enrollment

make the current system more efficient
common SH expectations for all staff - SH is not an extra plan period!
training provided for staff assigned SH
teachers will be expected to check in with each student daily
Mondays - students in SH all check their grades first thing; all students
on D and F lists will receive direct instruction in specific study
skills organization, use of planner, preparing for quizzes/tests, etc.
develop common form (Google Doc similar to what Dawnell uses in
SPED) for teachers to enter missing assignments data each Monday
classroom staff can remove the missing assignment when the student
submits it
office provides update list of all students enrolled in SH each semester
Meeting w/ M.S Core teachers today @ 10:00 to discuss common strategies
and skills we want all students in 7-9 to develop (these will be embedded in the
curriculum
1. Planners-survey - 122 students signed up for planners, typical order is 250 so will
order that number again to have on hand for new students and lost etc.

Discussion on placement of plaques. Two options; similar to Twin Riverand traditional
wood with metal labels. Need to involve the PAC board as well. Dale, Shawn and Kelly will
look at PAC and determine best spot for visual and available mounting surface. Team
preferred the Twin River plaque over traditional wood. Shawn will Wegner Monument and
Twin River to determine pricing.
